Job Title: Foundations of Health Careers Instructor
Reports To: Executive Director
Contract: 10-month

SUMMARY: Conducts a competency based instructional program with emphasis on Health Science Technology careers. Provide students with the knowledge and skills in direct care to prepare for employment and further training in the health care field.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provides competency/performance-based instruction leading to student certification in a variety of areas in the health care field. Included are basis First Aid, CPR, safety, and specific certification skills.
Instructs students in essentials of accuracy, efficiency, professional business, dress and conduct, resourcefulness and good work habits.
Emphasis is placed on communication skills, obtaining and retaining employment.
Instructs students in subject areas such as mathematics, science, communications, regulations and codes related to trade, and safety precautions.
Sponsors the Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA) chapter for the adult and secondary students.
Instructs students in the use, care and safe operation of equipment.
Plans and supervises work of students, individually or in small groups, in classroom, laboratory, and clinical sites.
Evaluates each student’s performance based on knowledge, skills and attitudes learned in the areas being taught; maintains academic records and employment references for students.
Maintains a program advisory committee which meets minimum of two times a year.
Maintains contact with business community relative to job requirements, current business trends and use of equipment.
Maintains professionalism and discipline during all supervision of students.
Works with Educational Services and Community Outreach staff in recruitment and placement of students.
Work with Career Resource Center, Math, and other specialists to provide education services for students.
Maintains competence through participation in staff development, in-service activities, and participation in professional organizations.

Education/Experience: Minimum Associates degree preferred or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred: Medical field experience
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Meet teaching certification requirements, maintains current industry recognized certification preferred but not required.
