Position Title:           Licensed Teacher (Elementary)

Reports To:               Building Principal

FLSA Status:             Exempt

Length of Contract:  190  (Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.)

 

SUMMARY:

The Licensed Teacher is responsible for providing quality instruction in his/her grade level content with emphasis on what we teach, how we teach, authentic literacy, problem-solving, and the Professional Learning Community (PLC) Process by incorporating the effective elements of instruction and the science of reading.  The professional educator will work diligently to fulfill the South Conway County School District’s purpose to Love, to Serve, to Care and embrace the mission to maximize safety, learning, and achievement of every scholar today.  The SCCSD is committed to the continuous Professional Learning Community cycle through a collaborative grade level and content team approach; the district functions as a larger systemic community with shared commitment and accountability.  PLC teams will identify essential learnings, unwrap learnings, create pacing guides, establish team goals, develop common formative assessments (CFAs), implement rigorous instruction and assessment, examine results, and take action to respond to student data in order to enrich and extend every learner to mastery and beyond.  The PLC cycle will be the vehicle for continuous improvement through a team approach in which all professionals can both contribute and grow.  He/she accepts and carries out any and all responsibilities delegated by the building principal.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

The licensed teacher will be evaluated by the building principal (and assistant principal, if applicable) using local district policies and Arkansas Department of Education guidelines.  This positon will coordinate with colleagues, parents/guardians, the building administrator(s), instructional facilitator(s), and other members of the learning community to accomplish the mission, vision, purpose, and goals of the SCCSD.  He/she will work in professional learning teams developing and analyzing curriculum, instruction, and common formative assessments in order to provide a guaranteed and viable curriculum and acceleration opportunities.  The licensed teacher’s primary responsibility will be to ensure learning and growth for every child while working in collaborative teams under the direction of the building principal.

 

ESSSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Fulfills all assignments given by the building principal.
  • Works collaboratively in PLC teams on the development, implementation, evaluation, and improvement of curriculum, instruction, and common formative assessments.
  • Analyzes data within PLC teams to adjust instruction, provide targeted intervention, enrich learning, and measure academic growth.
  • Incorporates science of reading research and elements of effective lessons into classroom practices.
  • Demonstrates relentless commitment to safety, learning, and academic achievement of all scholars (What We Teach, How We Teach, Authentic Literacy, Problem-Solving, How We Measure Progress, and the Professional Learning Community Process).
  • Demonstrates effective customer service to all district patrons.
  • Continues to grow professionally through research-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment methods in order to support an exemplary curricular program.
  • Ensures that key Arkansas content standards are addressed, aligned both horizontally and vertically, and assessed through collaboration and continuous reflection of teaching, learning, and assessments in the classroom.
  • Communicates and promotes high expectations by contributing to a culture of accountability and commitment.
  • Participates fully in professional development designed for educators of assigned area of responsibility.
  • Communicates with parents and guardians regarding student progress.
  • Follows the SCCSD handbook and guidelines to promote positive classroom management and ensure equitable services.
  • Utilizes technology to enhance/support instructional practices.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college; valid Arkansas teacher’s certification for the assigned area; valid Arkansas teacher’s certification with an Additional Licensure Plan (ALP) and adequate progress to satisfy requirements; previous teaching experience or internship preferred; must fulfill the professional development requirements set forth by the Arkansas Department of Education rules during his/her term of employment.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general educational periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures. Ability to write reports or correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from teachers, students, administrators, parents, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as general operations and percentages. Ability to apply foundational concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to interpret graphs and test scores, including basic statistics.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, staff, and community; skilled in oral and written communication.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to travel to other buildings or local training sites may be required for professional development opportunities. The position requires the individual to sometimes work irregular or extended work hours in order to meet multiple demands of the classroom teacher.
