School Nutrition Substitute
TITLE:
Cafeteria Assistant Substitute
LOCATION:

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Under the supervision of the Cafeteria Manager, the cafeteria assistant substitute is responsible for preparing and serving breakfast, lunch, and other food to children and adults in a courteous customer service oriented manner; organize and set up equipment and workstations; perform duties following health, food service, government and other regulations; demonstrate proper equipment operation skills.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare, cook, and serve meats, breads, vegetables and other food in accordance with the menu and Federal regulations.
- Prepare and serve fruits, deserts, salads, soups and other foods
- May be assigned to one specific food preparation or rotated through the full range of food services
- Wash pots, pans, kettles and other cooking utensils
- Operate dishwasher, mixer, chopper, slicer, steamers, ovens and other food services and mechanical equipment
- Clean work surfaces and eating and food preparation areas
- Sweep and mop
- Assist in estimating and ordering food supplies
- Receive and stock food supplies
- Maintain sanitary conditions
- Assist the manager by serving as cashier
- Perform responsible semi-skilled work in preparing and serving institutional meals and cleaning cafeteria
- Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing foods on a large scale General knowledge of the use of food preparation equipment
- General knowledge of food values and nutrition Skilled in the use of standardized and specialized kitchen utensils and equipment
- Ability to get along well with others
- Ability to work long hours while standing and under high temperature conditions
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED
