Job Title: Section 504/Dyslexia Coordinator

Department/Campus: Special Education

Pay Grade: Administrative/Professional

 

Primary Purpose:

 

Perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Oversee the Section 504 and dyslexia team of professionals and building level staff to ensure delivery of a wide range of interventions to all students and compliance with federal, state, and district guidelines. Function as a resource for administrators and building staff and proactively partner with different departments to resolve various problems and issues facing the district.

 

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Master’s Degree with an emphasis in Education or related field from an accredited educational institution; Texas Mid-management or other appropriate certificate; five years teaching experience; administrative/leadership experience at the district or campus level; experience in curriculum and instruction

  • Ability to train staff in dyslexia assessment and intervention, and Section 504 legal requirements, policies and procedures.
  • An understanding of best practices and legal requirements of Section 504 and dyslexia.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, parents, and community by projecting a positive image that enhances the district’s mission.
  • Effectively communicate state and district dyslexia policy and guidelines to teachers and staff.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Facilitates the planning, evaluation and delivery of Manor ISD’s dyslexia program for grades K-12.
  • Supervises campus dyslexia specialists and coordinators and evaluates job performance to ensure effectiveness.
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection, and training of personnel and make sound recommendations relative to personnel placement, assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
  • Uses appropriate and effective techniques (including ongoing dyslexia training) to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Plans the necessary time, resources, and materials to support subordinates in accomplishing educational goals.
  • Obtains and uses evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge dyslexia program effectiveness.
  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning vital issues.
  • Administers the Section 504 department budget and ensures that programs are cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
  • Develops training options and/or improvement plans to ensure exemplary operations in Section 504 and dyslexia.
  • Schedules and facilitates dyslexia team meetings and ongoing dyslexia team professional development.
  • Provides training, monitoring, and mentoring support to campus Section 504 coordinators.
  • Implements and monitors the screening, referral process, and assessment for dyslexia and Section 504.
  • Assumes responsibility for coordinating Section 504 and dyslexia programs throughout the district.
  • Maintains records and operating guidelines or policies that maintain compliance and promote effective intervention plans.
  • Develops, continually revises, and implements consistent procedures to identify and locate individuals with disabilities according to Section 504.
  • Develops and monitors processes, timelines, implementation and compliance related to federal regulations and state guidelines for Section 504 and dyslexia.
  • Works collaboratively with Curriculum and Instruction Department, Student Support Services, Special Education Department, and other district departments as needed.
  • Plans for accommodations in the general education environment for Section 504 eligible students including the provision of related services (i.e., transportation, etc.).
  • Monitors trends of district Section 504 student data by disability to ensure students with disabilities have access and are being included in programs, courses and activities.
  • Compiles, maintains, and reviews data as required to ensure the educational needs of children are met.
  • Coordinates, schedules and provides campus trainings and district-level meetings relating to Section 504 and dyslexia.
  • Attends state and regional meetings and conferences as required.
  • Periodically attends campus-based RtI and Section 504 committee meetings.
  • Dependable performance requires reliable and dependable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor in which duties are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of district dyslexia teachers.
  • Coordinate with supervisors of Section 504 campus coordinators to ensure they are fulfilling compliance requirements.

Regularly sit, talk or hear; frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; frequent repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer; occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-50 pounds; occasionally required to stand, walk reach with hands and arms; vision abilities include close vision; and color vision, regularly work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress; the noise level is usually moderate. The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail. There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.

Salary : $60,596 - $85,844
