Speech Language Pathologist

Reports to: Assistant Director of Special Services & Building Principal

 

General Summary:  Help reduce and eliminate speech, language, and hearing disorders enabling each individual student to derive full benefit from the corporation’s education program

 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Serves as a resource person to staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication with speech and language impairments
  • Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of handicapped students in the areas of speech, language, and hearing impaired; cooperates with the classroom teachers and staff members to implement therapy via suggestions for the student’s daily activities.
  • Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  • Provides screening to identify speech, language, and hearing needs for handicapped children providing assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, auditory perception, and language impairments.
  • Assists with referrals of students to agencies and specialists in the community, as appropriate.
  • Writes and implements the Individual Education Plans (I.E.P.’s) for eligible students.
  • Provides support and counseling to parents and families providing indirect therapy services for students who can be assisted at home and in the classroom.
  • Keeps a record of students receiving therapy or other school provided speech services performing secretarial duties as needed.
  • Compiles data on student’s history: health, family, early development and environment.
  • Requisitions and maintains equipment and supplies.
  • Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement.
  • Performs other reasonably-related duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal or the Assistant Director of Special Education.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master of Science Degree
  • Indiana Teaching License in Speech Pathology
  • Student oriented

 

Length of Contract: 185 days

Position Type: Exempt
