Central Ohio Primary Care is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor in our Central Lab located in Westerville, OH. The Second Shift Lab Supervisor serves the patients and Physicians of COPC by ensuring high quality, timely, and accurate results. The Supervisor organizes and directs the daily activities of the laboratory, ensures adequate resources, and supervises the technical staff. Responsibilities include coordinating all technical, logistical, and administrative functions to ensure prompt and accurate testing / reporting of results for all laboratory samples within established timeframes. This position ensures the laboratory is properly staffed with well trained technicians and technologists that follow approved protocols. This position is typical Monday-Friday starting at 1pm or 2pm.
POSITION(S) SUPERVISED : Lead Technologists, Medical Technologists, Medical Laboratory Technologists, Senior MLT and MT, Technical Lab Assistants, and Senior Technical Lab Assistants.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory and must maintain competency in all areas.
- Recommend selection of appropriate test methodology for clinical use of test results.
- Recommend verification of test procedures performed, including precision and accuracy.
- Collaborate with team members, Lead Techs, supervisors, and manager to ensure clean transition between all shifts and support quality assurance related to all aspects of the lab.
- Participate in a CMS approved proficiency testing program.
- Support appropriate QA and QC programs to identify failures in quality. Ensure that appropriate levels of analytic performance are maintained.
- Ensure that acceptable test performance is established and maintained. Monitor test analysis and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
- Delegate or resolve technical problems to ensure remedial action is taken. Document when tests do not perform to specifications and ensure patient results are only reported when tests are functioning properly.
- Provide supervision of daily performance of all laboratory operations.
- Assign and review the workflow of all technical staff. Conduct performance appraisals of all technical staff.
- Create monthly schedules of technical staff and approve requests for paid time off.
- Recommend hiring and / or performance management by participating in interviews and disciplinary hearings.
- Assist with staff training and ensure training is completed. Identify when additional training is needed for new hires and current staff.
- Mentor and develop staff to create future laboratory leaders.
- Ensure instrument maintenance is performed.
- Recommend and validate request for capital purchases and additional resources for annual budgeting process.
- Respond to Complaint Investigations as they pertain to all technical staff.
- Deal immediately and directly with any staff found to be non-compliant with laboratory or company policies and procedures, by utilizing company's disciplinary protocol.
- Respond to difficult customer service issues.
- Assist with computer troubleshooting.
- Ensure turnaround times are met for stats.
- Must be available to come in after hours and weekends to assist with facility, staffing and computer issues.
- Conduct in-services for all technical staff.
- All other duties as requested by supervisor.
