About the Role
The IR Sedation Nurse is responsible for the assessment of patients including the development, evaluation, and modification of the plan of care for patients receiving moderate sedation for surgical procedures.
The Registered Nurse is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for the comfort and safety of patients for a designated time frame.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Performs various activities necessary for the preparation of the patient and the procedure room for the radiology procedures in compliance with policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
- Conducts all necessary preparations for the patient procedure room.
- Stock the Nursing Cart for the days procedures with supplies to include EKG leads and oxygen
- Print the daily schedule and pre-op call template.
- Narcotic count in the morning, move to the procedure room for the day's procedures. Document all used narcotics during the day. Return all unused items to the lock box.
- End of day narcotic count.
- Checks in the first patient of the day. Explains procedure to the patient, answers any questions and addresses patient concerns.
- Administer medication, pre, intra and post-op
- Monitor patient vitals, intra-op including bp, ekg rhythm, oxygen saturation and ensure there are no airway obstructions
- Scan items used in the procedure room into the inventory management system.
- Administer sedation medication through IV access
- Sedation transfer from the procedure room to the holding area. Hook the patient up to the monitor and take the first set of vitals. Sign off on transfer document from self to the Medical Assistant.
- Complies with HIPPA policies and standards with regards to patient confidentiality.
- Oversee the crash cart. Perform AED checks and expired medication log daily.
- Check inventory monthly, remove and restock if outdated.
- Train new Nurses and Medical Assistants as needed.
- Make Post-op call to the patient and dictate in patient’s chart.
What We Expect from You
- Graduate of an accredited RN Program
- Current State License
- Current CPR certification
- At least one (1) year of medical/surgical experience is preferred
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have thorough knowledge in computer information systems.
