What are the responsibilities and job description for the Processing Laboratory Assistant II position at Central Peninsula Hospital?
POSITION SUMMARY: The Processing Laboratory Assistant II receives all specimens into the Clinical Laboratory for testing, and processes specimens for reference laboratories. The incumbent will be responsible for registering and receiving specimens, completing requisitions, labeling specimens, stabilizing specimens, checking specimen integrity, packaging specimens for transportation according to DOT standards, researching and reordering tests as needed, provide reference labs with pertinent information as requested, addressing questions from clinics and providers, as well as inventory and supply orders for Clinical Lab. This employee will be handling biohazardous materials, and chemicals such as alcohol, xylene, and formalin and will be trained to safely handle specimens with these additives. Excels in an environment where multiple people must work as a team and have a strong focus on customer and patient satisfaction. Efficiently handles all duties and responds to emergent situations in a calm and professional manner using a positive approach and attitude. Provides backup support for the Outpatient Laboratory, waived testing, specimen processing, and courier packet preparation, in addition to reception and clerical activities for the laboratory.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma/GED
- One year of clerical office experience in a healthcare setting
- One year of specimen processing & packaging experience
- BLSP (CPR) from the American Heart Association within 30 days of employment
Starting pay is 20.47/hr - $23.40/hr depending on experience. This position is eligible to receive the Per Diem rate which includes 12% on top of your base rate of pay. Additional compensation is also available for night and weekend shifts. This position is not eligible for benefits including health insurance and paid time off.
