We are looking for an experienced full-time Grants Manager to manage the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank’s (CPFB) grant funding program, including corporate, foundation, family, and private grants. This role focuses on securing financial support aligned with CPFB’s strategic plan by identifying, engaging, soliciting, and stewarding various foundations and government agencies. The manager will conduct research, write proposals, submit grant applications, and provide timely reports to funding organizations. As the primary contact for foundation and organizational donors, this position will maintain relationships and track interactions using Raiser’s Edge and associated systems. This Manager also leads CPFB’s cross-departmental grants team that collaborates to ensure efficient and effective performance across the life cycle of all grants. Additionally, the role will support CPFB’s development initiatives, including special funding campaigns and events.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with grant and organizational funders, managing a portfolio of current donors and cultivating new funding opportunities.
  • Coordinate pre-application grant meetings with internal teams to assess feasibility, eligibility, timelines, and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with department managers to determine project needs, budgets, and outcome tracking.
  • Lead CPFB’s cross-departmental grants team that collaborates to ensure efficient and effective performance across the life cycle of all grants.
  • Lead the grant writing and submission process, ensuring high-quality and timely proposals.
  • Develop and maintain an annual grant work plan, strategy, and master calendar for submissions and reporting.
  • Accurately record donor interactions, grant submissions, reports, and deadlines in Raiser’s Edge.
  • Organize post-grant meetings with relevant staff to finalize implementation and reporting schedules.
  • Manage all grant reporting requirements, ensuring compliance and timely submission.
  • Develop and implement stewardship and recognition programs for grant funders. Leveraging the SVP/Chief Development Officer and Chief Executive Officer in donor meetings and outreach efforts.
  • Research and identify new funding prospects to expand the grant portfolio.
  • Develop and maintain a grant proposal and reporting calendar. Ensure that all application and reporting deadlines are met.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned

Education and Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Additional years of experience combined with an Associate’s degree would be considered in lieu of having a Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in grant writing, grant management, and research.
  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising, program development, and proposal writing.
  • Proven track record of securing grant funding and fostering relationships with grant funders.
  • Experience working with institutional donors in a deadline-driven environment.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Passion for the Food Bank’s mission and core values.
  • Ability to understand and work with the diverse dynamics of a non-profit as well as multi-cultural populations.
  • Strong project management, research, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write compelling and persuasive proposals.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and work independently.
  • Knowledge of donor databases and reporting systems; experience with Raiser’s Edge is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) Tax Credits and related fundraising strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain donor relationships.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to uphold CPFB’s values and ethical standards at all times.
  • Ability to work as part of a high-performance team and be a strong team player.
  • Passion for customer service excellence (internal and external), professional etiquette, personal boundaries, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be friendly, outgoing, have a positive attitude and comfortable speaking to people.

  • Must possess strong critical thinking skills and recognize opportunities for improvement in the completion of tasks and projects.

  • Exhibit strong verbal, written, analytical, presentation, planning, time management and organizational skills. Ability to write, edit and proofread correspondence and presentation materials for accuracy and style.
  • Possess effective negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of the organization’s computer software and systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, department-specific software systems, telecommunications, and internet applications
  • Actively attend manager’s meetings and participate in the CPFB management team.
  • Ability to attend departmental and all-staff meetings as directed, staying informed of ongoing changes in department and overall organization.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (machines, tools, and devices) necessary for essential job functions, including computers and related peripherals, calculators, photocopiers, fax machines, and telephones.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise 1-3 staff members, providing guidance and performance management in accordance with CPFB policies.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • This position has the ability to work remote, in-office or hybrid at the discretion of the SVP/Chief Development Officer or based on the needs of the organization.
  • A valid driver’s license with a history of a good driving record.
  • Ability to travel that may include consecutive overnight stays, and traveling by car, bus, and airplane.
  • Conditions may include working outside in inclement weather, working closely with others, working alone, and working protracted or irregular hours.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The work environment is typically quiet.
