Cover Letter

General Function

Responsible for the WTVI-PBS Charlotte ("WTVI") financial and accounting functions including preparation of financial, Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and other grant reports and reconciliations. This position serves as the liaison between the College's Finance & Facilities Division and other WTVI personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and monitors WTVI financial activities and enters financial information into the College's and WTVI's general ledger. Ensures the station remains in compliance with the financial aspects of the Federal Communications Act.
  • Reconciles monthly donor contributions from the donor database to the College and WTVI general ledgers.
  • Assists with unrelated business income tax and IRS forms 990-T and 990, journalizes quarterly federal and state estimated tax payments to the IRS.
  • Compiles, analyzes, and summarizes financial information; prepares the monthly WTVI consolidated internal financial statements and informs WTVI general manager of financial performance.
  • Compiles the annual Corporation for Public Broadcasting reports, including the Station Activity Benchmarking Survey ("SABS"), Station Activity Survey ("SAS"), and Annual Financial Reports ("AFR") as well as other internal and external required reports. Ensures Non-Federal Financial Support ("NFFS") is accurately reported on AFR.
  • Researches existing system structures and recommends modification to improve the reporting process. Assists and prepares written policies & procedures for the WTVI financial activities.
  • Monitors account coding of WTVI invoices, receipts, and expenses to ensure they coded correctly into the financial software through review of monthly reconciliations and general ledger activity.
  • Serves as liaison between the College and WTVI, prepare ad hoc reports as requested by management.
  • Responsible for gathering all required WTVI year-end close documents from staff, preparing year-end journal entries, preparing the year-end functional expense schedule, and assisting in preparing audit documentation and pulling audit supporting files.
  • Prepares monthly WTVI PBS Charlotte journal entries.
  • Reviews daily deposit reports prepared by development department.
  • Researches accounting treatment as different situations arise and monitor the Office of Inspector General website for findings and report back to station management about trends, common issues, and any improvements needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration and at least 5-6 years of accounting or work-related experience

Preferred Qualifications :

Experience with Ellucian or Public Broadcasting or a CPA certificate

  • Ability to communicate effectively, gain credibility and develop productiveworking relationships with employees at all levels
  • Good oral and written communications skills emphasizing financial information
