Job Summary:
The Terminal Operator - Cement Handling Specialist is a crucial role at Central Plains Cement Company, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of terminal equipment. This includes bulk truck and bulk rail car loading and unloading operations, as well as performing maintenance work on terminal equipment as scheduled.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Inspections: Conduct thorough pre-shift safety inspections to identify and address potential hazards, completing reports to ensure accountability.
- Cement Handling: Load and unload bulk rail and bulk truck with cement, adhering to strict protocols to prevent dust and other contaminants.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on terminal equipment, including air slides and other critical systems, to ensure optimal performance.
- Materials Management: Accurately complete required materials management reports (BOL) using computer and paper forms, maintaining precise records for auditing purposes.
- Rail Operations: Operate rail switches for locomotive rail car movement, coordinating with colleagues to ensure seamless logistics.
Results/Accountabilities:
- Safety Compliance: Correct all safety deficiencies immediately, adhering to company policies and regulations.
- Lockout/Tagout Procedures: Perform lock out tag out and confined space entry permits or tags according to safety regulations, prioritizing employee and customer safety.
- Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrate positive interpersonal and telephone skills when interacting with terminal employees, customers, vendors, and the public.
- Quality Control: Ensure trucks are loaded dust-free, upholding the company's commitment to quality and environmental stewardship.
- Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Maintain a high level of accuracy in completing reports, reflecting positively on the company's reputation.
Qualification Profile:
- Work Experience: Possess mechanical aptitude and relevant work experience, preferably in a related field.
- Education and Certifications: Hold successful scores on Work Keys aptitude test, Applied Technology - 4 or higher, Applied Mathematics - 5 or higher, Locating Information - 4 or higher, and Reading for Information - 4 or higher.
- Physical Demands: Be physically able to work at heights and confined space enclosures, demonstrating adaptability and resilience.
- Clerical Skills: Demonstrate ability in performing clerical tasks in a neat and accurate manner, showcasing organizational skills.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Safety Knowledge: Possess knowledge and use of safety practices and regulations (Lock out tag out, Confined Space Entry etc.), staying up-to-date with industry developments.
- Technical Skills: Proficiently use Microsoft Office software, especially Word and Excel, applying technical expertise to improve efficiency.
