TITLE: Bus Monitor
RATE: $20/hr

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must be able to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must have the ability to interact well with students and staff.
- Must have the ability to support students with special needs.
- Successful completion of Employment History Review, fingerprint based criminal background check (IL State Police and FBI), sex offender and violent youth offender screening, and employment physical.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Director and Superintendent
JOB GOAL: Rides with students to ensure their safety during transport and enforces rules and bus safety guidelines. When applicable, ensures that the student is placed safely in the appropriate child safety restraint system before transport to and from school.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises and monitors students while on the school bus.
- Enforces school bus safety standards at all times.
- With input from the bus driver, reports students who cause issues on the bus to the director of transportation or building administration.
- Assists in maintaining an accurate, current rider lists
- When applicable, maintains an updated seating chart for the bus.
- Assists in keeping the assigned bus clean while following safety protocols.
- Establishes and maintains a calm, pleasant, and safe atmosphere on the school bus.
- Maintains a professional attitude with both students and staff while being responsible for students on all routes and out of district trips.
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality to ensure teamwork and the completion of job duties essential to the daily operation of the school.
- Adheres to a professional code of ethics which includes confidentiality of school related matters and loyalty to the school district.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the director of transportation or superintendent.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: On school days when students are present or need to be transported to and from an extracurricular event. Hourly rate approved by the Board of Education. Typically 9 months, but may include Extended School Year if applicable to route.
