TITLE : School Counselor - Grades 5-8
Salary & Benefits Summary per the Collective Bargaining Agreement :
- Annual Salary Range for 2024-25 School Year (180 days) : $42,550 - $65,000 (Dependent upon years of experience and education - minimum Master's Degree)

QUALIFICATIONS :
Valid and appropriate Illinois licensure.School Counselor endorsement required.Prior school experience preferred- but not requiredComplete required professional development to retain certification.Successful completion of fingerprint based criminal background check (IL State Police and FBI), sex offender and violent youth offender screening, and employment physical.REPORTS TO : Building Principal and Assistant Principal
JOB GOAL : Provides preventative developmental intervention, assessment, and support to students
and families to enable student competencies in academic, personal / social, and career domains in a flexible
setting with flexible hours.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping regarding the services delivered via the counseling program.Coordinates with other professional staff members to evaluate and assess the social and emotional curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.Applies knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.Provides Tier 1 and Tier 2 SEL instruction in whole class settings and small groups.Applies knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.Applies knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.Ability to organize and coordinate work.Communicates effectively with students and parents.Engages in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.Performs individual and group counseling for students.Assists with and attends 504 meetings when requested to do so.Leads support groups for students.Functions as a member of the district Problem Solving Teams.Assists in social developmental histories including adaptive behavior scales.Assists families with designing their individual family service plan and refers them to appropriate services and agencies.Participates in staffing and Individual Education Plan (IEP) and / or 504 conferences as relates to their direct client.Consults with teachers as appropriate to assist them in addressing the expectations for social decision making, behavioral, mental health, and academic goals based on SEL standards.Meets with parents to address academic, career, and social / personal domains affecting student's competencies.Facilitates and implements training in social decision making, behavioral, mental health, and academic goals for staff, parents, and community members.Facilitates classroom intervention instruction.Facilitates a comprehensive continuum of support that promotes healthy positive youth development using the social emotional learning standards.Keeps up-to-date on current research and practice referenced in the American School Counselor Association National Model.Assists with collecting and analyzing data regarding program participant outcomes, in the following priority areas : improving Tier 1 instructional practices, policies, and student outcomes.Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal / assistant principal and other district office administrators as designated by the superintendent.Adheres to a professional code of ethics which includes confidentiality of school related matters and loyalty to the school district.Note : The above description is illustrative of most tasks and responsibilities.
