What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor position at CENTRAL SD 13J?
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Confers and coordinates with home, staff, resource specialists and/or community on matters of student needs (e.g. county/state/federal services, courts, child protective services, etc.) for the purpose of providing/receiving requested information and/or making recommendations in order to implement personalized programs.

Counsels students (e.g. individual and/or group basis on a regular or as-needed schedule) for the purpose of enhancing student success in school.

Develops personalized programs based on each child’s abilities, strengths, weaknesses, emotional and intellectual needs for the purpose of maximizing opportunities for success in school.

Identifies students with special needs or who are at risk for the purpose of connecting them with appropriate services/support.

Interviews students new to the school for the purpose of orienting them to school procedures and the varied opportunities for learning.

Monitors students’ progress for the purpose of identifying issues and taking appropriate action for increasing student success.

Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars (e.g. CORE Team, IEPs, and Inservices) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and for continued professional growth.

Promotes and supports student responsibility and accountability for the purpose of encouraging individual growth.

Serves as a resource to classroom teachers for the purpose of providing classroom academic guidance activities.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

B.S./B.A.
- Valid and appropriate Oregon Teaching License.

Skill in assessing, planning and implementing programs of study for students that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.
- Ability to be responsible for the learning environment of assigned students and for supervising assigned teacher assistants and volunteers.
