Accountant II - Analyst
Job Summary: Utilize general accounting and financial principles and techniques for obtaining, assembling, evaluating, interpreting, recording, and analyzing financial data. Assist with the preparation and analysis of financial statements and regulatory filings.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and analyze investment financial reports and determine proper handling of transactions.
  • Review, investigate and correct errors and inconsistencies in investment related financial entries, documents, and reports.
  • Compile and reconcile financial data to ensure financial transactions are recorded properly.
  • Analyze investment financial data and prepare schedules and reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial activity for management.
  • Prepares and analyzes cash flow report for CSO and subsidiaries.
  • Prepare premium tax estimated deposits and annual returns, guaranty associations, other state assessments, surveys and fees, city taxes, and other miscellaneous state surveys and fees for CSO and subsidiary companies.
  • Provide back-up coverage for the accounts payable functions including entering cash disbursement vouchers, processing vendor payments and expense reports; delivering checks; processing EFTS and balancing of daily batch logs.
  • Provide back-up coverage for accounts receivable functions including analyzing and processing all aspects of daily incoming cash receipts and checks, prepare and balance daily deposits, process returned items, and process journal vouchers.
  • Serves as a backup for reconciling bank accounts.
  • Provide back-up coverage for the accounting and reporting of the administration of the Company’s reinsurance programs. This includes generating and distributing reinsurance reports and with the reinsurance financial statement reporting.
  • Monitor compliance with statutory accounting principles, generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.
  • Interact with other department members to resolve problems and inquiries and to allow for efficient data and information flow.
  • Assist members of the department with special projects, including annual external audit and regulatory exams.
  • Correspond and communicate with external contacts providing professional, timely, and accurate information.
  • Stays current with trends and developments in area of expertise; mentors department staff and related service users to assure full utilization of subject matter.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent in Accounting, Finance or other complimentary discipline.
  • Three years of progressively responsible post college accounting experience required.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with both internal coworkers and external contacts.
  • Solid understanding of MS Excel and strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Previous insurance industry experience.
  • Knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. CSO’s overall business workdays are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the incumbent’s actual work hour schedule to be determined by their supervisor. Attendance is required with employee working their scheduled hours of work at the employee’s designated work location, which may be office or remote based, or a combination thereof.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a corporate office environment. Incumbent is expected to reasonably work through necessary stressors of the job and work well with others.
It is CSO’s practice to communicate pertinent information on job duties, company policies and benefit disclosures via its email system. Thus, employees are required to access their company email account as an integral part of their job responsibilities.
Physical Demands:
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, cell phone, laptops, photocopies, filing cabinets.
The work performed is sedentary with the employee seated, and standing intermittently, to perform most duties. Less than 10% of the time will be spent performing physical activities and the job does not involve stooping, crawling or kneeling except in occasional situations. However, a negligible amount of lifting, pulling and pushing may be required to perform the work and some walking, standing, and manual dexterity may be required in routine activities such as carrying papers, opening file drawers, operating basic office equipment.

Travel:
This position requires no overnight travel.
