What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dispatch Supervisor position at Central States Manufacturing, Inc.?
Summary:
Provides day-to-day leadership of assigned areas. Schedules and dispatches drivers to performfreight deliveries with quality, efficiency, and on time performance. Works with the site/corporate management team to execute daily delivery plans, site, and company initiatives.Supports initiatives to improve the customers’ business and improve the efficiency of freight costs. Communicates with customers about freight details, delivery or pickup times, and special
handling requests. Continuously improves all aspects of the assigned area. This role is also responsible for maintaining relationships and negotiating freight rates with common carriers.
Core Functions:
- Follows and enforces all safety procedures and uses all applicable personal protective gear. Ensures safety goals are achieved and safety performance continually
improves. Observes and documents near miss/accident reports. - Promotes and develops the company culture and engagement of drivers through
regular contact with drivers. - Develops team through constant On the Job Training and coaching.
- Promotes regular and productive communication with drivers.
- Leads continuous improvement activities to improve performance in safety, RMA, on
time performance, and site/company key performance indicators (KPIs) of the assigned
area. - Utilizes visual methods in the daily operations within the assigned area, including but not limited to safety, RMA, on time performance to schedule, and site KPIs.
- Coordinates backhaul routes with internal and external customers.
- Schedules inbound freight and RMA pickups.
- Communicates delivery times with customers.
- Maintains flexibility of work schedule as you will/could receive calls after hours.
- Monitors team’s performance and suggests team and individual goals to improve overall team performance.
- Understands and communicates routing efficiencies and overall impact on the site financials.
- Performs problem solving activities for delivery and production. Understands a structured process to solve problems with root cause analysis and validated corrective actions. Ability to conduct these activities and explain to his/her EO’s the corrective actions and the expectations of them.
- Understands cost control and what impacts the assigned area. This includes knowing cost impact of CTTI, routing, 3PL freight collection, and driver utilization. This impact should be known and actively managed through the monitoring of KPI’s.
- Knowledgeable of company Safety/DOT/Regulation controls and ensuring the team is educated in these areas. Constantly reinforces this knowledge and prioritizes safety concerns.
- Trains and drives operational principles within the assigned area. These principles center around Continuous Improvement and tools such as 5-S, waste elimination, and RMA reduction.

Education & Experience:
Minimum Required:
- Two-year degree in logistics, supply chain, management, or general business field and a minimum of two years of experience in a leadership role or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Microsoft Office Proficiency, especially in Excel.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with Epicor, Samsara (or other fleet tracking software), and TMS software
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment. This role will routinely utilize standard office equipment to perform the core functions listed in this job description. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies as well as communicate verbally and electronically. The work is primarily sedentary and requires extensive reading to perform the core functions listed in this job description. While performing the core function of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and stand. This role will occasionally be required to perform some degree of field work, which usually involves auditing/assessing or executing basic maintenance on fleet equipment.

Travel
Domestic travel is an insignificant part of this role and will be based on business needs. 10% travel to be expected.
