Vice President of Operations
Position Overview
The Vice President of Operations will oversee all company operations, leading a high-performing team across multiple sites, and ensuring that our operations are in lockstep with our Sales Team to maximize efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction. This individual will be responsible for production efficiency, safety compliance, cost control, and strategic planning while aligning operations with the company’s growth objectives and core values. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in operational leadership and a strong track record of improving operational performance and profitability. Lastly, you must be the champion of the company’s core values: perseverance, respect, integrity, safety, and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Leadership & Production Management
- Oversee all aspects of production, planning, optimization, and personnel development to meet or exceed volume targets and cost objectives.
- Work alongside the Sales Team to ensure efficient delivery of products and services to our customers.
- Implement best practices for equipment utilization, process efficiency, and resource allocation to maximize output and reduce downtime and cost per ton.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and processes to improve efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, environmental laws, and safety standards (MSHA, TCEQ, etc.).
- Collaborate with engineering and geological teams to improve mine planning, pit development, and reserves management.
- Work alongside executive team to assist in growth efforts in new markets, including geologic analysis, plant/product optimization, budgeting, and startup.
- Take full responsibility for all operational employees, including hiring, personnel development, performance reviews, promotions, training, and buildout of new crews/personnel in new markets.
2. Safety, Compliance & Environmental Stewardship
- Champion a zero-incident safety culture by enforcing rigorous safety protocols, training programs, and risk assessments.
- Utilize existing company safety team to maximize effectiveness and accountability in our safety culture and growth efforts.
- Lead regulatory compliance efforts with a proactive approach to permits, reclamation plans, and environmental responsibility.
- Partner with regulatory agencies and industry groups to maintain best practices and stay ahead of evolving industry standards.
3. Financial & Strategic Planning
- Develop and execute an operational budget to drive efficiency and maximize EBITDA while reducing operating costs.
- Analyze financial performance, cost-per-ton metrics, and CAPEX investments to improve long-term profitability.
- Partner with executive leadership on growth strategies, including acquisitions, new site development, and technology adoption.
- Train/develop other managers in financial literacy of their operations.
4. Equipment, Maintenance & Technology Innovation
- Optimize plant and fleet management, including maintenance schedules, and procurement strategies to reduce costs and increase uptime.
- Identify and implement emerging technologies (AI, automation, telematics, predictive analytics) to enhance operational efficiency.
- Oversee relationships with vendors, contractors, and equipment suppliers to ensure reliability and cost-effectiveness.
- Train/develop other managers and key personnel to specialize in plant or equipment maintenance and monitoring.
5. Talent Development & Leadership
- Recruit, lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, including Plant Managers, Operations Supervisors, Quality Control, and Equipment Operators.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and leadership development.
- Drive employee engagement, workforce retention, and succession planning to ensure long-term stability in operations.
- Initiate community engagement efforts and develop opportunities to educate and serve the communities surrounding our operations.
Qualifications
- 10-15 years of experience in managing large-scale mining operations.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team across multiple locations.
- Experience building new operating systems and standards for implementation across the company.
- Strong understanding of mining processes, safety regulations, and environmental regulations.
- Experience in managing budgets, forecasting, and cost control.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
