What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler position at Central Tube And Bar Inc?
The basic function of the Material Handler is to ensure machines are staged and/or loaded with material. Finished product is unloaded and scrap bins/areas are cleared as required. Incoming materials are properly handled, stocked and identified in an organized manner.
Machine and Production:
- Ensure that all machines are loaded, and material is staged for the next work order.
- Ensure that all material being staged has CTB bar code tags attached. If not, investigate as to why and attach the proper tag to materials prior to processing.
- Staged material should be the correct quantity needed for job to minimize return to stock scenarios.
- Always check for proper size, grade and type of material prior to pulling for work orders.
- Unload finished product and place in the finished goods area.
- Clean out scrap bins periodically as needed
Receiving and Stocking Area:
- Receive incoming materials and ensure it meets the requirements and specifications as stated on CTB Purchase Order.
- Always inspect incoming materials for incorrect quantities, rust or any other visible defects before signing delivery documents. If issues are found, notify a manager immediately. Discrepancies must always be noted on the drivers copy of the delivery documents.
- Place incoming materials in the staging area for final inspection, processing of paper work, color coding (when applicable) and attachment of CTB tags.
- Stock incoming materials in the proper location and in an organized manner.
- Keep stocking area clean at all times. Boards, bands and any other debris should be disposed of immediately.
Other Duties:
- Assist shipping in packaging and loading finished product as instructed by Production Manager.
- Complete Forklift Daily Inspection Report.
- Complete Overhead Crane Daily Inspection Report (as applicable).
- Assist in physical inventories.
- Perform cycle counts.
- Contribute ideas for process improvements.
- Maintain confidentiality of company data.
- Keep Production Manager informed of all problems, potential and actual, that may affect the companys business.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A strong mathematical aptitude is essential.
- Organization, attention to detail and efficiency must be inherent.
- Two years experience in manufacturing or production-oriented environments.
