POSITION TITLE: PROGRAM ASSISTANT (Bi-lingual, Eng/Spa)
REPORTS TO: Mission: NOVA Site Director
STATUS: Part-Time (approx. 24 hours/week, may vary)
LOCATION: Mission: NOVA (Arlington, VA)
HOURLY RANGE: $17.50-$18.50
SUMMARY:
This position is an exciting opportunity to serve with one of the most respected and impactful organizations in the Washington, DC, area. Central Union Mission has been serving the homeless and low-income families in the DC area for 141 years. The Mission has some of the most strategic programs in the nation for combatting homelessness and poverty. The Program Assistant will help ensure seamless delivery of services to those we serve in Northern Virginia.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES (80%):
- Assist with food distributions
- Assist with facility management
- Communicate program information and disseminate materials and flyers related to the Mission and special events.
- Perform administration procedures in the office related to checking in guests.
- Sign up new program participants and assist with referrals.
- Receive gift-in-kind donations and provide appropriate documentation.
- Cleanup and maintain the office and food pantry.
- Keep track of weekly food and clothing distributions.
- Assist with special events.
- Other duties as assigned by the site director and other Mission leadership.

- Assist with unloading food and clothing donations.
- Serve as driver’s helper on food and clothing pick-ups.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Fluent in both English and Spanish
- Demonstrate a Christ-like attitude.
- Polite and kind demeanor
- Ability to communicate program information, policy and procedures.
- Work as a team player assisting co-workers, volunteers and program participants.
- Basic math and writing skills.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds.
- Basic computer proficiency
- Reliable and dependable.
Educational requirements
- High school diploma/GED accepted
- Customer service training preferred
Other Requirements
- Physical Demands: The position is generally physically active in nature and require standing, walking, lifting and ability to kneel down, stoop, bend at the waist, twist at the waist and reach, or sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment (copier, fax, printers, multi-line phone systems).
- Must have good vision to read a computer screen.
- Ability to hear and speak to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to include repetitive keyboarding, grasping, and reaching to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and/or standard office equipment.
- Agreement with and commitment to Central Union Mission’s mission and statement of faith required. Committed Christian and currently active in a local Christian church required.
- Driver’s license preferred
