What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Health Nurse I position at Central Utah Public Health Department?
Performs licensed registered nurse work under the general direction of the Director of Nursing, managing, planning, and overseeing the Parents as Teachers program activities and services. Responsibilities include implementing evidence-based practices, training staff, and providing direct services in clinical, school, and home settings to promote health and wellness within the community.
Essential Functions
- Implement the home visiting model with fidelity to the design and standards established by the Parents as Teacher organization, including but not limited to the essential requirements set by the Parents as Teacher National office.
- Assist with preparing the yearly calendar of Parents as Teachers group activities.
- Plan and utilize outreach, intake, enrollment and engagement processes for eligible families.
- Assist in a continuous development of quality improvement of Parents as Teachers program implementation.
- Attends and participates in various meetings with nursing staff, program coordinators, department employees, and partner agencies when appropriate.
- Participate in training, continuing education opportunities, and nursing service meetings as needed.
- Promotes and protects the health and wellness of the people within the Department’s jurisdiction by functioning within the framework of statutes, policies, rules, and regulations of the State of Utah pertaining to Local Health Departments.
- Ability to provide skilled nursing care, set priorities, and make judgements in the community health setting.
- Work with staff members to provide program support for various nursing and health department programs as directed.
- Responds to public health emergencies as required by the department or division administration; carries provided mobile phone, or other emergency communication devices during all work hours and at all other times when unavailable by phone at home.
- Participate in health clinics and fairs to promote the Parents as Teachers program.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, free of encumbrances.
- Skilled in computer applications for record management and reporting.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- CPR and first aid certifications.
- Valid Utah Driver License (out-of-state applicants must obtain within 60 days of hire).
Additional Qualifications:
- Must pass a criminal history background check.
- Knowledge of nursing theory, communicable disease control, and health promotion practices.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, solve problems, and maintain cooperative relationships with stakeholders.
