Director of Finance - This is an onsite position in Wasco, CA and is not eligible for remote work.

Position Type: Full time

Reports to: CEO

Level of Supervision: Moderate

Employment Classification: Exempt

The Director of Finance will lead the financial strategy, planning, and analysis for the food processing company. They will oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and risk management, ensuring the company’s financial health and alignment with its growth objectives. This role requires a strong understanding of the food processing industry’s financial dynamics, cost control, and regulatory requirements, along with the ability to manage a finance team and provide strategic insights to senior leadership.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Include, but not limited to:

  • Lead the financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with operational and strategic objectives.
  • Provide financial insights to guide key business decisions, including capital investments, pricing strategies, and market expansion.
  • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow analyses, and variance reports.
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks, providing actionable recommendations to improve profitability and efficiency.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, implementing corrective measures when necessary.
  • Analyze production costs, margins, and variances, recommending process improvements to enhance profitability.
  • Collaborate with operations and supply chain teams to optimize inventory management, raw material purchasing, and production efficiency.
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising product quality or safety.
  • Manage financial risks by implementing effective internal controls, monitoring cash flow, and mitigating exposure to market fluctuations.
  • Collaborate with other department heads to align financial goals with operational strategies.
  • Manage relationships with investors, lenders, and financial institutions, ensuring timely reporting and communication.
  • Oversee the management of capital structure, working capital, and investment strategies to maximize shareholder value.
  • Partner with Human Resources to assist in the handling of disciplinary issues and drafting the appropriate personnel action documents.
  • Recommend and implement techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state of the art practices.
  • Assist in the communication and maintenance of departmental SOP’s and job descriptions.
  • Serve as a role model to subordinates as it relates to effective time management, communication and utilization of resources.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to department personnel.
  • Ensure that direct reports complete their timesheet daily and submit a completed timecard for approval on the last day worked each workweek.
  • Ensure that direct reports resolve all timecard, attestation, and payroll related matters and complete the attestation on the last day worked each workweek.
  • Ensure that direct reports have regular, consistent, and predictable attendance per Central Valley Eggs attendance and punctuality policy.
  • Any other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong knowledge of financial planning, analysis, budgeting, and reporting.
  • In-depth understanding of cost accounting, production efficiency, and supply chain management in the food processing sector.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, both written and verbal proficiency, preferred
  • Proficiency with basic computer software (Microsoft Office applications)
  • Ability to keep detailed, accurate records
  • Highly organized, pro-active, self-motivated and honest

  • Familiarity with industrial equipment operations
  • Knowledge of farm equipment operation and maintenance is required

  • Ability and willingness to communicate routine, urgent production and processing issues and needs to the Live Operations Manager.

  • Reading and comprehension skills necessary to read, understand and follow SOP’s and other written instructions or work details. English reading and writing abilities.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use computers, run reports complete accurate data entry and document information related to all reporting requirements of quality systems and SOPs.
  • Ability and availability to work weekdays and weekends.
  • Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, budgeting, human resources, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources is preferred, not required.
  • Personnel and Human Resources — Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems is preferred, not required.
  • Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
  • At least 7-8 years of related experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the job including long periods of standing, bending, and lifting.
  • Occasionally lift/move/push/pull objects weighing up to and including 30 pounds.
  • Occassionally stoop/crouch/bend/climb/push/pull objects to complete the essential functions of this position.
  • Vision sufficient to safely perform the essential job tasks.
