Job Summary:
Under general supervision, a Classroom Teacher serves students in grades Kindergarten through 5. The teacher creates a flexible program and environment to help all students learn subject matter and skills contributing to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Planning & Preparation
The teacher integrates solid content knowledge into curricula, connects content to other academic disciplines, and develops relationships among topics and concepts in teaching plans and practices.
- • Effectively integrates current best practices, research, and education laws into the teaching plans and practices to ensure an effective educational program for students.
- • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of students, including intellectual, social, and emotional characteristics of their age group.
- • Selects and integrates instructional goals that are valuable, clearly stated, measurable, and suitable for diverse students.
- Learning Environment
The teacher creates and maintains an environment of respect and rapport, establishes a culture for learning, and effectively manages classroom procedures.
- • Creates a safe learning environment for all students and takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- • Develops and implements effective student behavior support plans as needed.
- Instruction
The teacher communicates directions and procedures clearly, accurately, and effectively, both in spoken and written language.
- • Effectively utilizes questioning and discussion techniques in the classroom to promote student participation and engagement.
- • Provides individual and small group instruction to adapt curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual abilities.
Other Professional Responsibilities:
- Accurately assesses lesson effectiveness and modifies the lesson plan to enhance student learning.
- Assists the school principal and grade level/content team in planning and evaluating curriculum effectiveness.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree and working knowledge of Vermont's Framework of Standards are required. Recent experience working in a Vermont school district is preferred.
Holds or is eligible to hold a Vermont Teaching License, possession of a valid driver's license, fingerprint/criminal justice clearance, and ability to read, analyze, and interpret common educational and technical journals, periodicals, and procedures.
