What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Tutor position at Central Wake High School?
The Academic Tutor is responsible for leading one-on-one or small group lessons that cater to the needs and goals of their students. The Tutor position is responsible for coaching, motivating, and instructing high school students within the company model.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to provide them with academic tutoring to improve their understanding of mathematics, reading, social studies, and science, at the high school level
- Provide academic support for students as they prepare for the ACT, SAT, and state assessments
- Keep records of appointments and student progress
- Assist in the design and delivery of group workshops
- Prepare and lead final exam group study sessions
- Work closely with the Graduation Coach and Assistant Principal to remain in sync with student support
- Maintain contact with students’ teacher to align support with classroom instruction through a strategic approach
- Provide insight into academic needs of students and suggest strategies for addressing areas of student concern (i.e., learning, preparing for assessments)
Job Requirements and Prerequisites:
- Associate degree in education or related field is required
- Appropriate Teacher’s certification preferred
- Knowledge of curriculum and instructional theory
- Knowledge of computer assisted instruction and word processing
- Ability to develop goals aligned to student academic needs
- Previous experience and/or the ability to work with overage and at-risk youth is preferred
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
