The Lending Specialist under the direct supervision of the Consumer Lending Supervisor will provide operational and clerical support in all areas of consumer lending for the Credit Union. This position is responsible for the creation, review and archiving of consumer loan documents, processing and funding consumer loans, securing the Credit Union’s interests in collateralized title loans in a timely manner, and completing operational tasks for the Real Estate department. The position also communicates consistently with internal staff, members, and third-party vendors by answering questions and providing technical and operational support regarding consumer loans. In order to perform these duties, the Lending Specialist should have an in-depth understanding of Credit Union lending policies, procedures and systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Consumer Loan Origination (30%)
- Prepare, review, and process loan documents for consumer secured and unsecured loans
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with lending guidelines, policies and regulations
- Fund consumer loans
Consumer Loan Servicing and Reporting (25%)
- Perform a variety of transactions and research activities related to existing consumer and real estate loans
- Administer the Credit Union’s GAP, MRC and Debt Protection programs, including issuing policies and managing claims
- Review and complete periodic reports related to consumer loans
- Scan and archive documentation related to consumer loans
Service Support (25%)
- Assist members, internal team members, dealers, and third-party vendors with loan-related inquiries and servicing needs
- Answer incoming phone calls and emails in a timely, professional manner
- Provide accurate information and guidance regarding consumer loans
- Maintain strong relationships with teammates, dealers and merchants by ensuring the friendly, efficient delivery of service
Title & Collateral Management (10%)
- Provide administrative assistance to the Title Processing team, including the following:
- Ensure the Credit Union’s interest in collateralized loans by processing titles and lien
- Track outstanding titles, communicate with a variety of agencies and dealerships regarding missing documentation, and ensure regulatory compliance
- Process incoming and outgoing mail
Training, Education and Advocacy (10%)
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert in terms of Consumer Lending. Provide regular training, advice and follow-up to internal team members
- Educate members on financial solutions that align with their needs
- Support the organization's goal of financial advocacy
Perform additional duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong clerical skills necessary.
- Ability to work on a personal computer with a high level of proficiency and efficiency.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work production.
- Typing and 10-key skills with emphasis on accuracy.
- Excellent communications skills, verbal, written, and listening.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduate or GED required.
- Minimum of one year of consumer lending experience preferred.
