Desired Qualifications:

  • Degree/Education: Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN). BSN is preferred but not required. Diploma in Nursing or Associates Degree is required.
  • Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: In addition to BCLS/BLS, certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)/Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required for the ER.
  • Experience: A minimum of 1 year experience as a practicing RN within the last 3-years. Six months out of that 1-year experience must have been in a Level III Emergency Room or in a critical care area with four (4) or more beds.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess evidence of continuing nursing education that contains knowledge and skills required in the specific nursing specialty.
  • Must pass an ER specific competency based orientation and assessment, within the first 5-shifts, that encompasses requirements unique to the particular specialty of an ER RN. Assessment test (Exhibit A) will be administered within the ER during patient care and may consist of recognition of life threatening arrhythmias; defibrillation; emergency cardioversion; independent administration of emergency drugs (monitor, mix, administer, titrate); ability to operate Belmont rapid infuser, administer whole blood, PRBC, and knowledge of mass transfusion protocol, treatment of post-partum hypertension/pre-eclampsia patients and industry standard roles of a trauma nurse.
  • Must possess professional knowledge in a wide range of nursing concepts, principles IAW Standards of Nursing Practice accepted at national level.
  • Must have knowledge and ability to evaluate situations involving all administrative and professional areas for outpatient care to determine alternative approaches for care and services.
  • Must have knowledge of health care management principles and techniques to recognize needs for process improvement and offer solutions to a wide variety of management problems.
  • Must have knowledge of counseling, evaluation, and assessment techniques as well as educating patients on general healthcare topics.


Core Duties:

  • Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals. Facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF.
  • Perform physical exam and health histories.
  • Provide health promotions, counseling, and education.
  • Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions.
  • Direct and supervise care provide by other healthcare professionals.
  • Accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel.
  • Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergencies.
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
  • Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate.
  • Perform nursing services identified in the TO.
