Job Description

To provide clean and well-maintained classrooms, laboratories, and buildings in support of the Mission Statement of the Facilities, Operations and Maintenance Department.

Positions in this level perform various housekeeping, custodial, and maintenance related tasks to ensure and maintain proper cleanliness of Centralia College facilities, Positions repair and replace various items, including but not limited to, light fixtures, switches, doors, hardware, windows, locks, etc. This typically schedule is Monday to Friday 3:00pm to 11:30pm. This position may be required to work outside normal business hours to ensure departmental coverage.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Daily - Clean and sanitize restrooms and fixtures in accordance with established practices/procedures. Check restrooms when first on duty, fill empty dispensers and remove trash from floor. Final cleaning of restrooms is to be done towards the end of the shift.
  • Daily - Clean chalkboards, whiteboards/ erasers, dust/wipe furniture, sweep, mop or vacuum floors, empty wastebaskets, trash/recycle containers, and wash door glass.
  • Daily - Pick up debris and cigarette butts in outside entries.
  • Security- Lock and unlock buildings as needed; secure buildings when not in use; check for unlocked doors and windows at end of shift; report any unauthorized occupants.
  • Maintains inventories and makes simple reports; requisitions supplies and equipment;
  • As needed assists other maintenance staff to complete College work orders
  • Verify that assigned areas are set up for the next day's activities. As needed move furniture or set up for special events.
  • Check areas for maintenance needs. Complete a work order/supply request form for such needs and leave in FOM office at end shift.
  • Strip, clean, buff, and apply floor finish to floors, and shampoo carpets.
  • As needed, spot shampoo carpets, as well as wash walls and equipment.
  • As needed, assist other staff in setting up facilities for meetings, conferences, Special events etc. Moves furniture and equipment; arranges tables and chairs. Provides clean and sanitized area.
  • As needed wash interior and easily accessible exterior windows.
  • Use equipment for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture, including power equipment and hand tools such as vacuum, broom, mop, buffer, extractor, squeegee, and ladders. Responsible for cleaning equipment after use and reporting equipment maintenance needs.
  • Safety- Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies and utilize appropriate equipment associated with commercial cleaning and minor maintenance repair wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to complete tasks in the safest manner.
  • May direct student workers who perform minor custodial duties, While under supervision.
  • May perform cleaning and related activities in areas within a reasonable distance from buildings using hand operated tools or small power equipment (activities such as removing snow and debris, sweeping sidewalks or stairs, and sometimes power washing stairs and entries).
  • May operate industrial cleaning equipment and power tools such as high-speed buffers, burnishers, shampooers, vacuum cleaners, hand drills and high-pressure washers.
  • Perform related duties as required, must also be willing and able to clean restrooms, classrooms, residence halls, offices and or similar facilities as well as perform minor maintenance tasks such as caulking, replacing toilet seats, lavatory handles, minor furniture repair, replacing outlet covers, able to move heavy items such as tables, furniture, cleaning equipment, supplies and other related devices. Collects and disposes of garbage and trash; shovels snow and sweeps and washes sidewalks on an emergency basis; This position requires the ability to physically bend, stoop, lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds; to stand and walk continuously throughout the shift, climb and stand on ladders.

The ability to do required work and the ability to read and write

AND

Six months to one year experience in custodial, general or building maintenance, grounds keeping, or semi-skilled carpentry, electrical and/or plumbing repair work. Or equivalent education/experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to stand and/or walk for over 70% of the work day; lift up to 50 lbs. constantly; bend; stoop and twist at the waist frequently; reach from knees to shoulder-level frequently and above shoulder-level occasionally; perform repetitive arm/hand motion constantly; constant handling and/or grasping; climbing stairs and ladders occasionally; and tolerate frequent carrying, constant pushing and/or pulling, frequent vibration from equipment, and occasional above or below temperatures; constant exposure to dust, chemicals, and equipment noise can be expected; hearing should be within normal limits to be able to communicate with students and staff; and must have clear vision, with or without correction to constantly notice details.

Conditions of Employment

There is one 40 hours per week position. Classified employees are represented by the Washington State Federation of State Employees (WFSE). The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees.

COMPENSATION
Monthly Salary: Range 34 ($3,028 - $3,910)

Hourly Rate: $17.40 - $22.47

Additional shift differential pay: $435.00 monthly or $2.50 per hour
