988 Crisis Line Program Manager
(Full-time, salaried, exempt position)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The 988 Program Manager provides leadership to the organization by managing the 988 Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the Hotline program. The 988 Manager is responsible for ensuring the quality of services offered by Centre Helps’ 24/hour hotline and text/chat line through effective recruitment, training, supervision, scheduling, and program planning. The 988 Program Manager works closely and collaboratively with the Executive Director. Ideally, as a successful candidate helps grow the agency, this position will grow into a Director of Operations position.

The 988 Manager must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills and the ability to pay attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously is critical. Public speaking, collaborative management, and commitment to agency growth are required.
Experience and education related to hotline work, social services, and/or management is required as described below. Flexible scheduling; some evening and weekend work required. 35 hour work week.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A master’s degree in social work, psychology, rehabilitation, activity therapies, counseling, education, or related fields and 3 years of mental health direct care experience
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field as defined in Proposed 55 PA. Code 5240.31 and five years of mental health direct care experience or
- A bachelor’s degree in nursing and three years mental health direct care experience or
- A registered nurse license, certified in psychology or psychiatry,
JOB DUTIES
RECRUITMENT
Recruit volunteers to fill hotline positions through public speaking, events, social media, etc. Coordinate the interview process with input from staff. Build a team of hotline volunteers that is a diverse blend of both community members and college students.
TRAINING
Coordinate training of Hotline staff. Oversee implementation of Centre Helps’ hotline training program. Continuously evaluate and make improvements to the program.
- Recruit, coordinate hiring process, train, and support the Hotline Trainers. The 988 Program Manager will also serve as a trainer.
- Continuously evaluate and make improvements to the training program
- Modify training curriculum in accordance with hotline trends.
- Seek opportunities to enrich the training program through speakers, activities, and teaching methods
- Prepare current hotline volunteers to serve as mentors and leaders to hotline trainees
CRISISLINE PROGRAM OVERSIGHT
Ensure that the hotline is fully staffed, 24 hrs/day, 365 days/year and that text/chat services are continuously offered within advertised windows. Continuously evaluate the Hotline Program, recommend and implement improvements. Seek, evaluate, and implement program expansion opportunities.
- Make recommendations to policies and procedures that will improve quality of hotline services.
- Build strong relationships with hotline staff.
- Provide feedback on logs, evaluate individual counselor performance and provide helpful feedback or additional training when necessary.
- Serve a resource to the hotline staff.
- Maintain scheduling coverage of the 24/hour hotline
- Coordinate staff meetings.
- Complete data reporting as required by program, agency, or funding sources
VOLUNTEER RETENTION
Provide volunteers with encouragement, reward, and motivation to continue work with the organization. Coordinate appreciation events, provide private and public recognition for positive contributions to Centre Helps, and provide letters of recommendation to current and former staff.
OUTREACH
Coordinate events in order to raise community awareness of services and volunteer opportunities. Attend community meetings to build relationships and partnerships with other human services providers.
LEADERSHIP AND MENTORING
Help to create a group culture which fosters individual motivation, high levels of individual and team performance, and quality of service. Provide growth and leadership opportunities for volunteer staff.
ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT
Support and participate in organizational events, fundraisers, or projects outside of the hotline program, as-needed.
