Position Summary
The Scheduler will answer phones and respond to online or portal requests for appointments. Organize patient appointments, schedule procedures, and coordinate office visits based on provider and patient availability. Confirm and update insurance packages, demographics, and portal information while on the phone. Discuss past due balances and take payments as needed. Process insurance information for verification and eligibility; ensuring correct package is selected and office is in-network with participant. Must be comfortable working on the phone, discussing financial balances, and communicating via email or portal.
Responsibilities
- Answer phone calls and appointment requests in a friendly and timely manner
- Schedule appointments for general visits, annuals, consultations, procedures, and ultrasounds
- Schedule and reschedule patient appointments when necessary
- Input or update patient demographics including insurance information and packages
- Perform eligibility checks for insurance and discuss co-pays and balances
- Collect past due balances over the phone
- Process and/or assist in the processing of Release of Information/Records requests onsite and offsite consistent with organizational policy/protocol.
- Possess and demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of organizational policies and procedures relative to the position and job functions.
- Possess and demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of web sites, portals and Health Information Exchanges (HIE) relevant to position and functions.
Skills / Education
- Knowledge of health insurance a must (co-pay, deductibles, in/out of network meaning)
- High school Diploma or GED
- 1 year customer service and/or clerical experience in a healthcare setting preferred. 2 years customer service experience any other industry
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience multi-tasking while providing quality customer service
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 36 – 40 per week
