Accounting Manager Responsibilities
- Effectively manage a small team of professionals, providing leadership, guidance, and opportunities for continued growth. Recruit, coach, mentor, and inspire Accounting Department teammates to high performance and continuous personal growth.
- Assist in timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP for external use, and internal financial statements for management decision making.
- Manage and assist in preparation of monthly P&L analysis.
- Prepare and review Balance Sheet reconciliations to ensure accounts are reflective of GAAP.
- Manage and assist in various monthly close duties as outlined on checklist.
- Calculate sales commissions utilizing CapitvateIQ
- Maintain state registrations and prepare all non-income state filings
- Manage accounts payable.
- Review bi-weekly payrolls.
- Interact with other departments on special projects as needed.
- Coordination of audits to ensure audited financial statements are issued accurately and timely.
- Assist with documenting and implementation of new accounting policies, practices and systems.
- Assist with analysis and accounting system integrations of future acquisitions.
- Continuously explore and integrate new technological advancements (e.g., AI and BI) to optimize accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in financial reporting.
- Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and systems to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Maintain internal controls to ensure accounting activities are in accordance with regulatory and company policies and procedures.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- A minimum of 6 years of professional experience, including 2 years of experience as an Accounting Manager or similarly comparable role in small and medium-sized enterprises.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- CPA highly preferred
- Experience in services-related industries – e.g., technology services, law firms, engineering firms and other businesses using T&M, WIP or reoccurring billing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written skills, recognizing that information and communication is necessary at multiple levels of an organization to achieve favorable results.
- Ability to work independently, lead initiatives or collaborate with others in a dynamic, fast-paced, environment where adaptability and accountability are imperative.
- Ability to motivate teams, work collaboratively, and produce quality materials within tight timelines, and simultaneously manage several projects.
- Tech-savvy with a proactive approach to adopting and implementing new technologies, including AI and BI.
- Proficient with the entire MS Office Suite.
- A “hands-on” approach with strong organization skills, maintenance of detailed records, attention to detail (precision is critical), and the ability to juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities while still meeting deadlines.
- Mature and ethical with very high personal integrity.
- Analytical and intellectually curious; and motivated to seek out answers and solutions.
