What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Educator (WIC) position at Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe?
Under the supervision of the W.I.C. Manager or designee, the CA is responsible for ensuring the delivery of program services are performed in compliance with federal, state and county policies and procedures. Duties include planning, coordinating, evaluating clinical, breastfeeding and nutrition services.
- Assist in planning, directing and coordinating of activities of the program.
- Performs Quality Assurance activities.
- Assist Manager in the supervision and training of staff.
- Identifies and develops nutrition education resources and materials.
- Attends and participates in regular departmental, organizational and committee meetings, conferences, workshops, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

community which he/she serves.
2. Demonstrates initiative and leadership.
3. Ability to conduct classes, preferably in Spanish and English, following specific lesson plans provided by the State Agency and to make necessary, appropriate alterations when required.
4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
5. Ability to exercise judgment and maintain orderly, concise documentation in unusual and stressful situations.
6. Ability to deal with clients in an understanding, respectful and effective manner.
7. Ability to prioritize tasks and reassign responsibilities when necessary and
appropriate.
8. Extensive experience with knowledge of cultural patterns and practices of
the community they are hired to serve.
9. Ability to satisfactory complete the nutrition modules and training
activities of the local agency.
10. Ability to read and interpret variety of complex rules, regulations, and other functions.
11. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and neat records.
- Must have a valid Texas Driver's License, comply with State of Texas Driving Laws, and maintain an acceptable driving record. Must have reliable transportation.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Nutritional Sciences; Human Nutrition or Dietetics; Public Health Nutrition; Community or Clinical Nutrition with (24) twenty-four semester hours of course work in food and nutrition from an accredited college or university, or License Vocational Nurse certification, or Registered Nurse (RN) or certification of Dietetic Technician Registered.
- Registered Dietitians (RD) and Dietetic Technicians Registered (DTR), must be credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
- Two years of public health service which shall have been in a health or college setting preferred
- Minimum of one year working with the public in a teaching and/or counseling capacity.
