Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Behavioral Health Director, the Medical Assistant II is assigned to provide support to the Provider by assisting in providing and coordinating the daily clinical care to patients. The Medical Assistant II will also perform all duties related to general front desk duties including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage, and customer service for the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Behavioral Health staff.
Essential Functions:
- Performs patient triage and vital signs.
- Obtains Medical and Psychiatric history.
- Obtains and secures written consents for treatment prior to visit with Provider.
- Obtains copies of third party identification cards.
- Ability to work with insurance billing, Medicare, and Medicaid billing.
- Performs general business office duties and works with all areas of the clinic as appropriate.
- Serves as the care coordinator for medical and behavioral health services.
- Greets all patients and visitors and directs them appropriately.
- Documents all procedures done, ensures that the patients understand all orders before leaving.
- Makes call to patients if abnormal results or other information was dictated by Provider.
- Ensures that electronic charts are completed by documenting any procedures done.
- Handles patient inquires and responds to their questions and concerns.
- Receives and responds to all patient telephone calls.
- Participates in Performance Improvement and documentation of patient visits, reschedules, cancellations and DNS for the Provider.
- Critically evaluates existing methods and develops better ways of doing things.
- Maintains patient’s confidentiality according to HIPAA policies.
- Obtains necessary reports needed by Provider.
- Assists patients in making informed decisions.
- Provides accurate information to co-workers, patients and Providers in a polite manner.
- Communicates and demonstrates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility.
- Works well with others.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, RMA or CMA preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant required.
- CPR certification required.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred.
- Previous experience in health care, specifically mental health and/or working with the homeless population preferred.
