Job Summary:
The Licensed Vocational Nurse Clinic Supervisor is under supervision of the Nurse Manager and/or Registered Nurse and serves as the immediate on-site supervisor of the nursing staff (Medical Assistants, Medical Secretaries, and Referrals) for the site. Performs the basic nursing function within the clinical setting as well as managing patient follow up in specific areas. In addition, the clinic’s LVN Clinic Supervisor manages all nursing/clinical area policies and procedures. Responsible for the dispensing of medications from the class D Pharmacy. The specific Pharmacy related duties, policies and procedures are under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist and the Chief Medical Officer.
Essential Functions:
- Acts as the immediate on-site supervisor of clinic nursing staff and works with the Nurse Manager to ensure adequate coverage of the nursing areas at the clinic.
- Performs nursing care within the clinical areas within the scope of Practice if an LVN in the State of Texas. Includes, but is not limited to: Medication administration patient teaching; assisting with patient intake and discharge, assessing walk-in patients; immunization administration, assisting with flow of patients.
- Manages the Immunization Program.
- Prepares monthly reports to the State of Texasand obtains Immunizations from the State.
- Ensures the proper storage and handling of biologicals.
- Handles, completes, obtains pre-authorization, maintains accurate and current list of referrals for each Provider, follow-up on results.
- Makes appointments for patients, obtains necessary reports requested by Provider.
- Treats all patient information as confidential per HIPAA guidelines.
- Assists Business office schedule patient appointments and updating the Provider’s schedule.
- Assists in the training of new employees as appropriate.
- Maintains knowledge of current standards, federal regulations, state statues and other regulatory agencies.
- Supervises Pharmaceutical Staff in the absence of Pharmacy LVN.
- Assists patients with questions regarding medication use, side effects, etc.
- Verifies that prescription information is reflected accurately in computerized record and on medication vial to be distributed to the patient.
- Checks and verifies patient name, date of birth, allergies, and address (required for MAP medications only) prior to releasing medication to the patient.
- Checks and verifies that each filled medication is correct by ensuring the following: right patient, right medication, right strength, right sig, right amount (of tablets, etc) verify expiration date, verify prescription number.
- Provides patients with basic instructions regarding the use, side effects, etc. of medications upon releasing them to the patient.
- Ensures proper patient follow-up with abnormal pap’s mammogram, lab results and maintains requires documentation for Tracking Department.
- Provides patient care and Assessments for walk-in patients, consulting with Provider for guidance and maintains required documentation for Medical Records.
- Performs Laboratory duties such as venipunctures (if certified) any type of required specimen, communication with Lab supervisor, maintain and obtains lab supplies.
- Performs Pharmacy services by signing off on all prescriptions being dispensed, keeping a stored and sample medication log, and makes sure all medication s secured and locked.
- Functions as on-site supervisor for staff when assigned to San Elizario, Homeless, or EHN sites and works in cooperation with the CMO, Nurse Manager or RN; Business Office, Lab, Behavioral Health, and Pharmacy supervisors regarding staffing and staff concerns.
- Ensures the performance of daily Quality Assurance on clinical equipment.
- Communicates and demonstrates the mission, vision and goals of the Center.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Current LVN license from the State of Texas and CPR card.
- Two years experience in nursing and one-year supervisory experience.
- Current Immunization record.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
