DEPARTMENT: Maintenance, Central New York Regional Transportation Authority
SALARY RANGE: Grade 6 - $63,410 to $70,875
Note: Starting salary is determined by evaluation of experience and qualifications for the position and will be set at some point between the minimum and maximum of the pay scale.
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for creating and administering maintenance training programs and ensuring the quality assurance of the fleet. Will also be responsible for creating and updating tests for all levels of mechanics. This includes but not limited to all outlying properties. Position is non-exempt.
REQUIRED HOURS: Mon-Fri;10:00a - 6:30p, flexibility is necessary to ensure second shift coverage, overtime as needed.
MAJOR DUTIES:
1. Develop and implement training programs and standard operation procedures pertaining to the work process performed in various maintenance departments.
2. Oversee the design and fabrication of training stations for hands on training.
3. Ensure technicians are trained in current maintenance techniques and procedures which require ongoing updates and recertification.
4. Work with vendors to schedule training.
5. Provide instruction and education to maintenance employees on use of diagnostic software programs and training websites.
6. Maintain and update employee-training records.
7. Participates in the training of new hire bus operators regarding the technical operation of the bus to ensure safe operation of the vehicle.
8. Responsible for overseeing driver training for all newly hired maintenance personnel to obtain CDL A and B.
9. Organize and maintain up to date training materials including instructional media and handouts for distribution to maintenance employees.
10. Administer Workforce Development Institute (W.D.I), and Department of Labor (DOL), acts as primary contact person to ensure success of the program.
11. Development and updating of current testing protocols for all levels of technician. Includes input into NeoGov or other software.
12. Conduct pre-requisite training and other classroom instruction needed.
13. Work with the marketing department to recruit new mechanics.
14. Maintain and update trainee toolboxes.
15. Assist with training budget.
16. Inspects buses and fare boxes for damage, completes damage reports, requests damage investigation from appropriate personnel.
17. Perform Quality Assurance inspection in all departments on all vehicles, including all job performance evaluations, while employees perform duties to understand training that may be needed.
18. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience: Associate’s degree required, or the equivalent of three (3) years of Maintenance Management experience.
1. Knowledge of engine operation and mechanics for a variety of vehicles and equipment.
2. Knowledge of repair principles and procedures for gasoline- and diesel-powered engines.
3. Knowledge of electrical system repair procedures.
4. Knowledge of management and supervisory techniques.
5. Skill in diagnosing mechanical problems for a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
6. Skill in performing preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
7. Skill in the use of a variety of hand and power tools used in repairing vehicles and small engines.
8. Skill in oral and written communication.
9. Knowledge and experience in a wide range of mechanical systems to include transit system building technology such as but not limited to engines, transmissions, air systems, air and hydraulic brakes, drive train, steering, A/C, fare boxes, , electrical systems, equipment operation, vehicle driver training for transit, vehicle lift operation and safety.
10. Must be able to give and receive directions.
11. Must be able to communicate with senior staff as well as subordinates.
12. Must have good record keeping skills.
13. Must be comfortable speaking to an audience.
14. Must have proficient computer skills and experience with MS office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or other software programs.
15. Must have a working knowledge of Maintenance Connection
16. Transit ASE preferred but not required.
17. Must be able to attend seminars and training sessions, travel may be required.
18. Must be able to train in a variety of shifts as needed.
