What you will do :

The Design Engineer works independently under minimal supervision on assigned projects within their own discipline; receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects. Performs moderately complex tasks requiring application of learned techniques and standardized procedures while ensuring the successful conclusion of all phases of assigned standard engineering projects within the appropriate time and cost; exercises judgment on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.

Key Responsibilities :

• Assists in the management, supervision or performance of planning, designing, constructing and / or maintaining structures, facilities and systems.
• Evaluates, selects and applies standard practices and techniques in specific problems within own field of engineering, using judgment in making some substantial engineering adaptions and modifications to assigned projects; tabulates and correlates data; runs experiments and performs calculations; and performs engineering analysis work.
• Oversees the design or development of engineering drawings including plans and specifications based on calculations; reviews, interprets and revises engineering drawings.
• Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
• Prepares or secures and reviews cost estimates, compiles required cost and equipment information and writes appropriate requests.
• Reviews engineering plans for compliance with numerous regulatory acts.
• Participates in Safety and Quality Assurance activities by serving on teams, special projects, attendance at meetings, training sessions, special assignments, etc.
• Prepares a variety of written summaries, informal reports and progress reports on work. May do literature searches and studies on information relative to assignments. May make oral presentations of work.
• May coordinate the work of technical support employee who assists in accomplishment of the primary task which may consist of troubleshooting and repair of experimental equipment and systems, modifications or adjustments to eliminate malfunctions.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

In addition, once employe, employees will become part of a random drug testing program and may also be tested in the event of any incident causing injury or causing damage to property, or if it is determined that there is a reasonable suspicion the employee is under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This position will require preemployment background check on the part of the Company and in order to receive a DOE security clearance, a background investigation by the Federal government. Subsequent Federal government reinvestigations may be required.
