Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care: Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and eating. Help patients with mobility, including turning, positioning, and transferring between beds and wheelchairs.
- Vital Signs Monitoring: Measure and record patients' vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates. Report any changes in patients' conditions to the supervising nurse.
- Medical Support: Assist with basic medical procedures and treatments as directed by RNs and LPNs. Ensure proper administration of medications, wound care, and other prescribed treatments.
- Patient Environment: Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment for patients. Ensure that patients' rooms are kept clean and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Documentation: Accurately document patient care activities and observations in the medical records. Ensure all records are up-to-date and comply with healthcare regulations and policies.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and healthcare team members. Provide emotional support and ensure patients' comfort and dignity at all times.
- Emergency Response: Assist in emergency situations, following established protocols and procedures to ensure patients' safety and well-being.
- Certification: Must be a licensed nursing assistant (LNA) with active certification in Vermont (VT) and/or New Hampshire (NH).
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a state-approved nursing assistant training program.
- Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred but not required. New graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, empathy, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team. Basic computer skills for documentation purposes.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, moving, and assisting patients. Stamina to work long hours and handle the physical demands of the job.
- Setting: LNAs work in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and private residences.
- Schedule: Full-time and part-time positions are available. Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required.
- Supervision: LNAs work under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs).
