Summary/Objective
Truck Shop PM Techs are responsible for ensuring that all mechanical and electrical components of trucks in the Company’s fleet are functional to maximize the performance and safety of the vehicle.

Job Duties/Essential Functions
- Read work orders, and determine work required
- Perform basic care and maintenance, including changing oil, checking fluid levels, and rotating tires
- Identifies root cause of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required
- Plan work procedures, using technical charts and manuals
- Follow checklists to ensure that all critical parts are examined
- Read and interpret diagnostic test results to identify mechanical problems
- Perform major and minor engine repairs to vehicle’s mechanical, electrical, and exhaust systems to comply with DOT and environmental standards.
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, engines, and other parts of vehicles
- Repair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, and other mechanical or electrical equipment
- Test driving repaired vehicles to evaluate for top performance
Truck Shop PM Technician Skills and Qualifications
PM Techs use a variety of technical and soft skills to provide the most comprehensive repair solutions they can, including:
- Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
- Advanced knowledge of a vehicle, its electrical system and the mechanisms of a diesel engine
- In-depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operational mechanisms
- Superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment
- Comfortable using mechanical and electrical power tools
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Basic knowledge of computer systems and other relevant electronics
- Proficiency in the use of diesel engine diagnostic software

Work Environment
The work environment is an open bay setting without controlled temperature in the Summer months. Various personal protective equipment is required when performing tasks which create exposures to injury or illness.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This position is considered a medium to heavy physical demand position requiring the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. on occasion.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
3-12 PM. Overtime is required as needed to meet deadlines on repairs.
Travel
No travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Certification and training in diesel engine repair from a vocational school or a community college.
- 1 year experience
Preferred Education and Experience
- Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence for Diesel Mechanics.
Other Duties
PM Tech needed for truck and trailer shop, experience required strong attention to detail, ability to work with iPad in maintenance platform and follow processes. Skills in brakes, tires, computer diagnostics. Maintain clean workspace and work in a shop environment with others. Interact with vendors and drivers.
Shift runs, M-F 3PM until 12AM.
