Machine Controls Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Machine Controls Specialist (Engineering Department) in the Chicopee, MA facility. ***This is an exempt level position.***

The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 15 years of experience providing equipment control systems for industrial processing and control experience using PLC's, motion and robot controllers. Knowledge and experience with electro-mechanical and electronic systems and solutions including machine controls design and programming are required. Job responsibilities include troubleshooting and/or re-wiring of existing machinery. The ability to multitask within a fast-paced environment with frequently shifting priorities.

Job Summary

Participate as part of the engineering team in designing and building control systems for built-to-order equipment and complete solutions. This job requires an enthusiastic self-starter, who enjoys tackling engineering and controls challenges in a hands-on environment to support reliable envelope manufacturing. Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are very important.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Functions)

These are the functions a qualified incumbent or applicant must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Specify control components, including enclosures, controllers, drives, switches, sensors, safety controls, wiring devices, and all other control related hardware.
• Create wiring diagrams for machine control using 2D CAD software.
• Develop controls specifications, panel lay-out and control device placement.
• Load programs and parameters to control devices such as PLCs, robot controllers and servo drives.
• Control-panel builds including enclosure cut-outs, component assembly, wiring and testing.
• Specifying other electro-mechanical systems as required such as vision systems and other sensing devices.
• Production line equipment troubleshooting, re-wiring and electrical rebuilds.
• Ensure that designs strictly adhere to industry standards for worker safety purposes.
• Support writing technical manuals and creating BOM's for documentation and training purposes.
• Work with the engineering team to develop and implement complete control systems for individual pieces of equipment as well as complete processing and materials handling systems.
• Become proficient with Cenveo robot systems to provide on-site and remote support/troubleshooting.
• Write and execute test protocols.
• Conduct code and design reviews in the development process.
• Create and maintain task lists and schedules for progress tracking.
• Collaborate with team members to distribute workloads.
• Panel-builds to UL 508
• Adhere to company and established standards.
• Support manufacturing with project management through assembly, testing and final delivery.

Other (Non-Essential) Functions

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

• While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and machinery.
• The noise level in the work environment varies from moderate to high.
• It is essential that all safety rules and measures are being observed at all times including wearing PPE, as appropriate when working in the shop.
• The incumbent may regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• The incumbent will be required regularly to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
• The incumbent will occasionally be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

• Computer Skills: Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite and extensive hands-on experience with 2D CAD programs.
• Occasional travel as needed but typically one week every 2 months.
