The Sr. Clinical Laboratory Staff Scientist (Sr. CLS) is responsible for the development and testing of proficiency testing materials for Cepheid tests, engage in post-market activities such as conducting laboratory work supporting investigations of discrepant results reported by customers or end-users, provide clinical laboratory accreditation assistance to internal and external customers, creation of technical documents for customer support, and execute laboratory maintenance & management The Sr. CLS will also have opportunities to attend internal and external scientific conferences, develop laboratory and molecular skillsets unique to Cepheid products and maintains expertise and CLS/MLS/MT credentials through continuing education credits.
This position is part of the Scientific Affairs team, within the Medical and Scientific Affairs Department, and will be located in Sunnyvale, CA at Cepheid’s headquarters. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Coordinate and collaborate with proficiency testing (PT) vendors for PT activities including ordering, testing, result submission and trend analysis and reporting findings to internal departments.
- Participates on new product development activities, as needed, to develop PT for new assays.
- Performs compatibility testing of Cepheid products with proficiency testing and external quality control materials available on market
- Performs various technical laboratory procedures for the purposes of troubleshooting or investigating discrepant cases, including bacteriology, mycology, molecular virology.
- Creation and writing of reports as needed for closure of discrepant investigation cases and Develops SOPs for laboratory policies, procedures and protocols.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor’s with 8 years of experience or Master’s degree in Life Science or Clinical/Medical or Clinical Laboratory Science from an accredited university with 6 years of experience or Doctoral degree in Life Science, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or Medical Laboratory Science with 3 years of experience.
- Long-standing experience in moderate to high complexity Clinical Microbiology specimen processing and laboratory techniques/testing, including PCR diagnostics and other molecular techniques
- Licensed CLS or MLS by a recognized accrediting agency (ASCP, AMT, CA LFS)
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Knowledge of CLIA, CAP, FDA and ISO requirements, including Adverse Event Reporting
- Knowledge of HIPAA and other associated policies
- Fluent in other languages

The salary range for this role is $140K - $180K. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
