Description

CEPTON (Nasdaq : CPTN), a leading intelligent lidar solution provider, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Metrology Engineer to ensure the precision and accuracy of our Lidar products. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and optimizing the metrology tools and calibration methods. This role will also be critical in ensuring product performance, developing advanced measurement systems, and supporting production with effective metrology solutions.

The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in optical systems, sensor calibration, and metrology tool development, driving the performance of high-quality optical sensor products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive calibration methodologies and refine calibration procedures and systems for LIDAR systems to ensure long-term accuracy and stability.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of optical system distortions and various impacts on Lidar signal intensity, creating and refining mathematical regression models to ensure LIDAR point cloud position and reflectivity accuracy.
  • Drive efforts to improve the precision of product measurements and validation techniques, identifying sources of error and implementing corrective actions.
  • Oversee the maintenance and calibration of metrology equipment, ensuring tools are in optimal working condition and meet required standards.
  • Design and develop advanced metrology tools and methods to ensure accurate measurement of LIDAR products, focusing on precision and repeatability.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance metrology capabilities, ensuring measurement systems are scalable, cost-effective, and support future product requirements.
  • Perform rigorous testing and validation of calibrated LiDAR systems using real-world data to assess performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Work closely with hardware, software, and product quality teams to integrate calibration processes seamlessly within the LiDAR production pipeline.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of metrology processes, calibration protocols, model assumptions, and validation test results.

Qualifications

  • Education : Master’s or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related field.
  • Experience : 3 years in optical system metrology, calibration, and measurement with a strong understanding of optical dimensional distortion and intensity signal nonlinear response mechanisms.
  • Preferred experience : Experience with LiDAR, IR laser systems, or other advanced optical sensing technologies; in-depth understanding of point cloud calibration processes.
  • Mathematical & Analytical Skills : Experience in calibration tool design and development for optical products; proficiency in mathematical modeling for correcting optical distortions and calibrating 3D point cloud data.
  • Programming Skills : Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or C for developing and implementing calibration models and testing processes.
  • Hardware Skills : Strong knowledge of optical sensors, imaging systems, and associated metrology tools; proficiency in statistical process control and data analysis tools.
  • Problem-Solving Skills : Proven ability to identify measurement issues and implement innovative solutions to troubleshoot complex calibration challenges.
  • Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to diverse audiences.

    The pay range for this role is $140,000–$180,000 . Actual compensation packages are based on several factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.

    The total compensation package for this position may also include an annual performance bonus, stock, benefits, and / or other applicable incentive compensation plans.
