Ceres is seeking 8 candidates for a 7-month High School Internship Program, to begin in early June of 2025 through December 2025.
DEPARTMENT: Garden & Youth Program
REPORTS TO: Garden & Youth Program Manager
LOCATION: Sebastopol, Ca Primary; other Ceres sites and surrounding communities
FLSA STATUS: Paid Internship- Temporary, Part-Time, Non-exempt
HOURS: Start date June 11, 2025; approx. 15 hours a week for the first 8 weeks, then 6-8 hours per week from late August- December 2025.
SCHEDULE: Must be available Monday-Thursday during the summer and on Thursday and Fridays after school and Saturdays during the school year.
This position is for High School Students.
Position Summary
The Farm to Community Food Educator Internship is a 7-month internship where youth will do an intensive program during the summer with Ceres – working shifts in garden along with classes and tours. After the intensive summer program, interns will harvest and prepare produce to distribute weekly in a clinic along with providing cooking demos and nutrition classes. This program is funded by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
Farm to Community Food Educator Interns will:
-Work on garden shifts to learn hands- on gardening skills.
-Learn about nutrition and healthy eating with a focus on vegetables and fruits.
-Learn Ceres' model of soil to community health and gain food system literacy.
-Develop curriculum to teach classes in the community.
-Distribute produce to the community and teach nutrition.
-Meet as a team to support each other in teaching.
-Receive ongoing evaluation and support on teaching healthy eating.
Basic Information:
-Start date: June 11, 2025- full program is 7 months long.
-5-15 hours a week; this is a paid internship-interns will earn $18.00 per hour.
-Hours will vary but must be available Monday- Thursday during the summer and Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays during the school year.
-Transportation will be provided as part of the internship if it is needed.
-We will select 8 people for this program.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this internship, the intern is regularly required to stand in a garden; use hands and fingers to operate various gardening tools and equipment; talk and hear to communicate with others. The job also requires:
-Regular squatting, lifting and twisting.
-Moving heavy items from one location to another.
- Must be able to work physically and be comfortable working outdoors in the sun.
-Moderate lifting of up to 40 pounds to chest height or occasionally overhead, bending, stooping, twisting and climbing a ladder is occasionally required.
