Title:Assistant Principal

BASIC FUNCTION:
Assists the principal in managing and administering all school programs, including supervision of all certificated and classified employees and students assigned to the school. Under the supervision of the principal, oversees State and Federal projects, English Learner programs and other programs as assigned.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
•Implements the District-approved program of instruction by:
oAssists in creating a total school atmosphere conducive to optimum student progress
oParticipates in the ongoing development and evaluation of the District’s educational program including assessment and data management
oAssists in implementing effective guidance and health services for all students
•Responsible for personnel management functions of the school by:
oAssists in making recommendations regarding the selection of school personnel
oAssists, supervising and evaluating assigned school personnel
oAssists in developing effective lines of communication and staff input in educational planning
•Responsible for assigned business management functions such as department budgets, student activities budgets, etc
•Responsible for general administrative functions such as maintaining accurate records and preparing reports
•Responsible for assisting with school plan management functions by assuming responsibility for a healthful environment and safe school facilities
•Assists in the direction of student management functions carried on in the school by:
oDevelops and implements school schedules and assigning students to classes
oAssumes responsibility for the planning and supervision of student activities
oAssumes responsibility for student discipline and standards of behavior
oMonitors and organizes attendance functions; preparing letters and contacting parents as needed
oDevelops and implements school safety plans and procedures; plans and implements safety drills
oAssume oversight of various meetings, clubs and committees
oAssume oversight of special education referrals and meetings.
•Participate in the development of policies as a member of the District administrative team and interpret school and District programs, policies, and procedures to students, staff, parents and community
•Assists in the development and maintenance of productive community relations; connecting families with community resources
•Assumes a leadership role in change and revitalization projects
•Actively pursue professional growth activities
•Performs adjunct duties necessary to the effective operation of the District and the school as assigned
•Assumes responsibility for categorical programs and special projects
•Maintains liaison between school and law enforcement, fire, probation and welfare departments
•Coordinate graduation activities
•Mobilize community resources to support school enrichment
•Communicate information about the schools activities to families and the community
•Coordinate graduation/promotion activities
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge and application of: Curriculum and instruction; instructional materials and methods; evaluation procedures; clinical teaching and supervision; special education law; resource management; and laws relating to site level management
Ability to:
•Coordinate, supervise and provide educational and administrative assistance, support, and leadership to the site staff
•Evaluate programs
•Work effectively with a wide variety of organizations and with people of all socio economic, cultural backgrounds
•Understand, implement and give complex oral and written directions in English
•Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work
•Compose clear, complete and concise correspondence and reports independently using correct grammar, syntax, punctuation and spelling
•Drive a car
CREDENTIALS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Credentials: Valid California Administrative Credential, teaching credential, and California Drivers License
Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
Experience: Three years teaching experience
SUPERVISION:
Works under minimal supervision of the Principal
