Title: Community Liaison-Elementary Schools Reports To: Site Principal or Designee
Salary: Range 29 ($14.01 - $18.39) Classification: CSEA Classified
FLSA: Non-Exempt (Hourly) Work Year: School Term - 182 Work Days

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Principal or designee, inform and involve parents, students, and provide opportunities to site-based or community services in order to enable children to obtain maximum benefit from the educational program. Serve as a liaison between the Student Study Team, Health Clerk, School/Staff Secretary II, Child Welfare and Attendance and other school and community agencies. Keeps regular meetings, schedules and conducts informational meetings and provides guidance to families on how to assist students with reaching their academic and social goals.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Interact with District staff to facilitate the linking of services and resources for the benefit of students and their families. Maintain a high level of customer service to students and families.
- Serves on the Student Study Team and other site-based student/family service groups.
- Makes home visits, telephone calls and/or communicates electronically to inform parents of school programs, services, and activities.
- Establish and maintain positive public relations with district staff, parents, students, and the community.
- Attends planning meetings regarding the educational program for students.
- Assists in the planning, implementation, and operation of student/family services both internally and externally.
- Refers families to outside agencies to assist and serve specific needs.
- Participate as a team member for specific student issues; assist in resolving concerns with purposeful interaction with parents and other family members as necessary.
- Encourages parents to participate in various school activities and services.
- Supervises student groups and activities.
- Assists in the planning and preparation of student activities and special events.
- Assists the Principal or designee in monitoring student attendance; follows up with families by scheduling home visits, school site conferences, contacting families by phone and/or by electronic communication to help insure positive student attendance.
- Provides guidance to parents and students in reaching their academic and social goals and monitors progress toward established goals.
- Coordinates student referrals to appropriate school and community resources.
- Maintains confidential records and prepares written reports as requested.
- Insure incidents that are of a serious nature involving students are reported to the proper site/district administration or legal authorities.
- Attends required in-services, training, and conferences.
- Promotes parent and community involvement and positive public relations for school programs and services.
- Serves on and/or chairs committees as assigned.
- Maintains effective communication with and provides input to the Principal or designee, including regular written updates regarding the Liaison’s activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
- Work and deal effectively with people of all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
- Maintain cooperative and professional relationships.
- Compose clear, complete, concise correspondence and reports independently using correct grammar, syntax, punctuation, and spelling.
- Communicate and maintain cooperative relationships with parents, students, co-workers, supervisor and public.
- · Understand and carry out oral and written directions and work independently without direct supervision.
- · Operate modern office equipment and applicable software programs.
- · Perform clerical/filing functions as required and meet required timelines.
- · Speak, read, and write English proficiently.
- · Maintain a flexible work schedule, including working evenings at special school events and/or being available to the site during extenuating circumstances.
- · Drive personal owned vehicle (POV) to and from various school sites to perform duties, mileage reimbursement at the district established rate.
