Job Summary

Gohagan & Company is seeking to add a Director of Product to our team.

This position adds value to the Gohagan & Company brand and extends our tradition of excellence by overseeing the development of unique, culturally and educationally focused cruises and tours for our clients and travelers. The position will manage a team of Product Managers who design, prepare and implement all components of high-end international ocean cruises, river cruises and land programs. In addition to day-to-day management of the team, the Director of Product will be responsible for owning Gohagan’s annual tour lineups, consistently driving the team forward across multiple years of development / operation and ensuring that all tours are developed and executed according to the company’s established product standards and USPs.

Essential Job Functions :

  • Develop, curate and manage annual tour lineups which include a variety of domestic / international destinations, product types and styles.
  • Lead team of Product Managers in day-to-day operations and specifically the building, implementation and continuous improvement of detailed itineraries including accommodations, sailing schedules and excursions.
  • Maintain strong relationships with international suppliers including cruise lines, hotels, Destination Management Companies, and more to produce and deliver the best programs in the best destinations with the best partners.
  • Ensure consistency in the delivery of the traveler experience across all international programs.
  • Assist in review of post-tour reports and implementation of continuous change for consistent improvement in tour satisfaction, net promoter score and other relevant metrics.
  • Assist in organization and scheduling of Product milestones.
  • Lead weekly team meetings, solve day-to-day problems and ensure the team is on track.
  • Support the delivery of accurate and appropriate information internally to support promotional and operational activities.
  • Responsible for accuracy of information across internal systems and external-facing documents, promotions, etc.
  • Negotiate and contract with international suppliers.
  • Own program-level P&Ls, reviewing and approving program costing for accuracy.
  • Collaborate across departments, including Sales, Marketing, Operations and Customer Service to ensure timely and accurate diffusion of information.
  • Consistent reporting and communication to the Executive Leadership Team.

What you bring :

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university; three to five years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10 years of experience planning cruise and / or other international travel programs
  • Must have experience in cruise itinerary development, from port to port, creating unique small-ship cruise experiences in existing and new regions.
  • 3 years of people management experience
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate or above knowledge and work experience in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent negotiating and communication skills.
  • Excellent general knowledge of destinations and geography.
  • Management of large-scale projects across multiple years simultaneously.
  • Ability to develop partnerships and work cohesively across departments, including Sales, Marketing, Operations and Customer Service.
  • Ability and desire to travel overseas and such travel may provide little or no advance warning and may occur over weekends and / or holidays.
  • Ability to communicate clearly across cultures and languages via email, phone, video call and in person.
  • This position is located in our Chicago Headquarters office.
  • Special Requirements :

  • Must maintain a valid passport.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (domestically and / or internationally) for trade shows, product contracting, planning and destination familiarization and / or group operation.
