SUMMARY:
The Cardiac Surgical Technician (CCST) under the supervision of the Professional Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse, and/or the Physician, to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive cardiac surgical procedures. This individual ensures that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The CCST possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combines the knowledge of cardiac surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program and certification
- Minimum two years experience as Surgical Technician working in a dedicated cardiac team or facility
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or any other accredited Surgical Technology certification is required or must be secured within 6 months of employment. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
