We are hiring a Utilities Engineer for our Civil Engineering practice in Maryland.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, the Utility Engineer/ Civil Engineer is responsible for the design & construction of various types of utility systems. You will prepare plans and specifications, direct drafting work as needed, and coordinate designs with different types of utilities on transportation projects. Prior experience in electric systems and duct bank design is preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interact with personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and residents in a positive, collaborative and team-building manner.
- Learn the preparation of design deliverables for underground utility lines including plan and profiles, calculations, pulling calculations, material selection, duct bank design, riser structure design, horizontal directional drilling design and construction specifications in compliance with safety, environmental and industry/client standards and policies.
- Learn to review and approve drawings and material lists developed by designers.
- Develop project estimates and schedules, evaluate design options and criteria for technical merit, and conduct field visits to verify routing conditions and parameters.
- Learn to review drawings.
- Become a lead for efforts specific to underground line civil work such as: Horizontal Directional Drilling, Jack & Bores; micro-tunneling; other trenchless technologies, Bridge attachments design, Duct Bank and manhole loading calculations
- Learn standards such as ANSI, ASTM & ASCE, NAD/NAVD, ACI, AISC, ASCE, AWS, CRSI, and OSHA.
- Prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints.
- Manage the Utility Relocation plans.
Education, Certifications, and Experience
The Utility/Civil Engineer's minimum qualifications for this role include the following:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (or similar engineering field)
- 5-10 years of relevant engineering experience
- PE eligibility within the United States
- CAD design and drafting AutoCAD and/or Microstation
- Experience with working in a team setting
- Proactive communication skills, both oral and written
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have any of the following:
- PE Certification
- Demonstrated experience handling Utility and Transportation projects
- Experience with engineering design software such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Ability to use Excel, Access and/or similar products to query, manipulate, and analyze data
- Experience working oftentimes independently while maintaining positive, effective relationships within a cohesive team environment
- Ability to function/interact effectively with vendors to troubleshoot issues
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects.
