This role supports veteran healthcare through the performance of routine and stat laboratory testing across multiple disciplines, ensuring accurate and timely diagnostic results.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and stat laboratory testing in:
- Specimen processing
- Hematology
- Chemistry
- Coagulation
- Urinalysis
- Basic microbiology
- Blood bank
- Follow established quality control procedures and documentation requirements
- Process and prepare specimens according to laboratory protocols
- Monitor equipment performance and report irregularities
- Document test results accurately and promptly
- Report critical values according to established protocols
- Maintain laboratory safety standards and infection control practices
- Comply with all VA policies regarding patient privacy and information security
Required:
- Associate degree
- Current certification from either:
- American Medical Technologist (AMT) or
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as Medical Laboratory Technician
- US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status
- Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing)
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn laboratory information systems
- Prior experience in a hospital laboratory setting
- Experience with Vista/CPRS systems
- Blood bank experience
- Previous work in a VA or federal healthcare facility
