Position Overview
Medical Technologist needed to perform comprehensive laboratory testing services at VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System. This role is critical in supporting veteran healthcare through accurate and timely laboratory diagnostics, including specialized testing in hematology, chemistry, blood bank, and other critical areas.
Contract Details:
- Location: Two positions available:
- Nashville VA Medical Center, Nashville, TN (Evening/Night Shift)
- Alvin C. York VA Medical Center, Murfreesboro, TN (Day Shift)
- Position Type: Full-time
- Contract Duration: Base year (6/1/2025 - 5/31/2026) plus potential for four option years
- Security Clearance Required: VA Background Investigation required
- Perform stat and routine testing in multiple laboratory disciplines including hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, basic microbiology, and blood bank
- Execute and document quality control procedures following VA protocols
- Conduct patient/unit blood compatibility testing and issue blood products
- Monitor and correlate laboratory results for accuracy and reasonableness
- Report critical values according to established protocols
- Maintain accurate documentation and records in VA systems
- Troubleshoot instrument and procedure problems
- Comply with all VA safety and privacy requirements
Required:
- Bachelor's degree
- Current certification from either:
- American Medical Technologist (AMT) or
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist
- US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status
- Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing)
- Ability to pass VA background investigation
- Experience with laboratory information systems
- Prior VA or federal healthcare facility experience
- Experience with Vista/CPRS systems
- Blood bank experience
- Previous experience in a similar role within a hospital setting
- Strong technical proficiency in clinical laboratory procedures
- Excellent attention to detail and quality control
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong problem-solving skills
