A Top mid-sized law firm is seeking a Business Development Manager for their New York office.
They are looking for an individual who demonstrates creativity and delivers quality work product in a timely manner in a fast-paced, professional work environment.
The Business Development Manager stays updated on legal and industry trends, and is a strategic advisor to the corporate group partners.
Responsibilities:
• Participate in developing practice and individual business development plans that formulate a strategic approach, identify specific deliverables, and work in line with the overall firm strategy. Manage follow- up and execution.
• Work with practice group leaders and partners to execute targeted and client focus pitches, RFPs, and client research.
• Work with partners to strategize, develop and execute live and virtual seminars, custom client education programs, and practice related events, including CLE programs and sponsorships.
• Draft and manage directory submissions (including Chambers and Legal 500), rankings, and surveys for transactional practices in collaboration with partners and marketing team. Assist in articulating key messages for directory submission and share best practices in the submission process.
• Conduct substantive research on new business opportunities with the support and coordination with Library Services.
• Coordinate with the external PR team on press releases, pitch story ideas and provide spokespeople to reporters as appropriate; track published articles and consider social media strategy around key projects.
• Develop and manage strategies across practice groups to develop new business opportunities including the growth of existing relationships.
• Create and manage all practice related marketing content including managing webinars and content related events. Production of quality marketing materials and pitch books, including web site but also targeted materials on offered services and experience.
• Support lateral partner and counsel integration into assigned practice area and with the rest of the firm
• Assist with the maintenance of the firm’s distribution lists as well as practice and industry-specific deal
lists.
Required Qualifications:
• BA/BS degree
• Minimum of seven (7) years of business development experience in the legal sector
• Knowledge of corporate finance transactions
• Experience with planning and preparing pitches, substantive presentations and other marketing materials
• Command of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel)
• Superior presentation, writing, and oral communication skills
• Ability to work confidently and effectively with partners and senior administration of the firm
• Excellent project management skills, with keen attention to detail and an ability to prioritize and execute
multiple ongoing tasks often under tight deadlines
• An ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume, deadline driven
environment
• Self starter, able to work independently while maintaining a “Team player” mentality with great
collegiality responding well to an evolving environment
• Flexible and lend support where needed
• Traveling may be required
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
• Excellent editing and proofreading skills
