What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machinist position at CFD Research Corporation?
CFD Research is seeking Machinists to support design, fabrication, and testing related to multiple aerospace research projects that support a diverse set of customers. Candidate will have the opportunity to work a diverse set of challenges, from concept development to prototyping to testing the prototype's performance. In this role, the machinist will support multiple engineers, working closely to understand the task and deliver the best possible solution or prototype.
The role will use background and experience in manual and CNC machining to help deliver the final solution. Applicant must be able to work on different projects in a rapid paced R&D environment with little or no assistance.
Location: This role is based in the Hollywood, AL area, and is 100% onsite
Basic Qualifications:
- Must have a demonstrated level of understanding and knowledge of the operation/application of the following equipment; micrometer, bore gauges, depth gauges, thread gauges, variety of machining tools
- Must have considerable knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods, and practices of general machining
- Must have prior senior-level experience operating any or all of the following machines: CNC Lathe, CNC Mill, Manual Mill, Manual Lathe
- CNC VMC/Lathe CAM programming, conversational experience a plus
- Ability to use English and Metric measuring tools (e.g., micrometer, calipers and associated machinist measuring tools) to take accurate measurements
- Knowledge of the properties of a wide range of metals and the associated machining speeds and feeds
- Able to read blueprints. schematics, manuals and understand tolerances for the fabrication process.
- Position requires an Associate's Degree in a related discipline and 10 years of experience working in a similar capacity (experience may substitute a degree).
- Preferred candidate will have an innovative spirit and passion for developing and testing unique, pioneering engineering concepts
