Description
The Unit Clerk (Social Worker Assistant) performs a variety of general office duties while assisting the medical staff of the assigned facility to ensure effective inmate patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes in accordance with established CFG clinical guidelines. The Unit Clerk will use fax, internet, email, written log books, computer and patient charts, answer telephones, route calls, schedule ancillary testing, assemble patient charts, and file patient charts. The position will also be responsible for normal maintenance of office equipment and ordering of office supplies and some medical supplies as directed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
- High school diploma, GED or Certificate equivalent.
Required Skills
- Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Excellent in Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong knowledge of all office equipment.
FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
- Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests.
- May be required to work nights, weekend, and holidays.
- Must be familiar with dictation, transcription and copying equipment.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adheres with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) standards of care, American Correctional Association (ACA) and Performance Based National Detention Standards (PBNDS) as appropriate.
- Attends in-service presentations, and completes mandatory education.
- Actively applies methods to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.
- Transcribes doctors’ orders per facility policy.
- Stamps, assembles, completes, and processes patients’ charts as indicated.
- Coordinates ancillary testing with outside service providers.
- Maintains an accurate clinical record, recording information per company policy.
- Prepares special forms as necessary for day to day activities.
- Acts as the unit’s liaison to all medical staff, off-site providers, and inmate patients.
- Responsible for obtaining reports.
- Obtains necessary approvals for off-site services as needed.
- Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.
